craftycarper
Well what can I say, daughter gave birth to a little girl a couple of weeks back so grandad has been tasked with the school run for my 5 1/2 year old grandson over the last few weeks. Everything was fine till this morning, although it really started yesterday. A bit long winded but just need to vent a bit of frustration. Daughter was approached yesterday in the street by a father of a child in my grandsons class, he told her quite aggressively that he had had a call from the school to pick his child up after an incident with another child in the playground. Turned out that his child had pushed my grandson and in turn my grandson pushed him back a little harder and he hit the deck and grazed his cheek, tit for tat I say, school did not ring my daughter they were happy as the whole thing was witnessed and the other boy started it. Roll on today, takes him to school and as he walks up the corridor to his class I follow him outside then wave him goodbye as he goes into the room. Anyhow this kids father is in front of me and as he enters the classroom and turns to say bye the kids parent starts pointing at him, then his cheeks and says look what you've done to his ******* face. My grandson is looking uncomfortable and the guy carries on doing it, at this point I've had enough so I said to the fella " leave it out mate, it's all been sorted by the school and it's done with" then I got about fifteen minutes of verball abuse, loads of swearing etc and then he went to poke me with his finger. I stepped back, hands behind my back and said and said don't touch me boy! Anyhow I asked him to step inside so we could take it out of view of the children and parents and maybe see a teacher about it, I had also called the children's teacher out and he was still swearing and she couldn't calm him either, in the end I had to remove myself from the playground into the school while four teachers attempted to calm him and then escorted him out of the school. It was all quite embarrassing really, especially when I left and a lady teacher said do you want me to walk out with you, I said "I'm big and ugly enough to look after myself my only concern was the children witnessing it all and the other parents watching, we should be setting a example and I don't want any trouble"....great ain't it and that's before they hit secondary school. Teachers they're underpaid in my opinion hats off to them but this is in a 5 year olds playground, heaven help them
nobbyathome
good on you for keeping calm it just goes to show with parents like them there kids have no chance in keeping out of trouble in life
Penelope
Ah, chavs, wouldn't the country be better without them. Where about's in Essex? Edited December 11, 2015 by Penelope
WGD
Well done for keeping it civil and calm. That's the problem now, the parents view is that all children are angels and all other children, teachers or anyone who dares discipline little Johnny is a prejudiced bully. If I'd gone home with a grazed face as a result of being pushed over by someone I'd pushed first, I'd have had a sore backside from my father for starting it in the first place. STOTTO
Crank it all back 60 years and at that age what was a few lumps gained or given in the playground worth? If I had whined to my old dad about it, I would have collected another one! Well done you for allowing Mr. Angry to retain his teeth but it must have been hard! bruno22rf
Was this "Gentleman?" INSIDE the classroom?- as far as I'm aware that's a big no no unless he was invited by the Teacher.
Zapp
I can only imagine the panel door carnage that would have ensued if this had occurred in Burnley. Joking aside though, hopefully your grandson wasnt too distressed by it all. It can be very hard to keep these things from escalating and it sounds like you did well in handling it. Livefast123
It must have made him feel like such a big man, being agressive to a child. So his child starts an incident, gets an *** whopping then complains about it......sorry to say it's typical of the UK and see it everyday. No responsibility, those children have no chance. Well done for dojng the right thing and the school can see who the responsible family are but what if it had been your daughter. What a muppet. simjakcal
you handled it well....yet if the school have anything about them, he should be banned from the school grounds from now on with behaviour like that in front of the school kids... TIGHTCHOKE
Two sides to every story, shame the other parent chose not to see it from the schools point of view, let's hope this is an end to it all. I commend you for your self control CC.
Jaymo
Aaaahhhh. Poor bloke. I'm surprised he had time to argue as surely Jeremy Kyle was on the tv at that time of the morning and the Benefits Office was due to open at 11.00 too. Mustn't forget he probably had to pick up a healthy lunch at Iceland or the pub..... Ok, so I'm generalising, but I'm deeply saddened by the way people feel they can vent/ confront others in such a violent manner for something so trivial. As others have stated, how many times did we come home from school bruised up- but I can't ever remember my father ever charging up to the school. craftycarper
Well an update for you all, grandson is fine and the school has been in touch with my daughter. They are completely disgusted with this guys behaviour, this afternoon there will be extra teachers around in case it flares up again and have said they will involve the police should it happen again, funny thing is he has told them we are friends and there isn't a problem, strange as it's the first time I have met him today. I even had to go down the local playgroup to meet my daughter this morning as he said he would be having words with her, that was his parting comment this morning, so as you can gather I was slightly worried and cancelled a fishing trip I had planned to accompany her in case he did turn up. I was informed also but it's not confirmed as of yet that he suffers from Tourette's, is a single father of one and the mother can only see the child under supervision so that really says it all. There has been a few problems between the two kids this year, it's a kind of love hate relationship they have, one minute they are fine together the next they are at loggerheads but that's kids for you. My grandson has mentioned a few times this kid has told him to hit another kid and so on.....here's a good description of the guy I dealt with this morning.....spitting image and dress code of Dappy from ndubz....say no more! Well half hour to go and it's back down the school, let's see what happens this time

Oh yes very hard, I am still furious now it sort of eats away at you, I was no angel years back and we dealt with things as and when, if this had happened back then it was fists first think later, I would of broken him in two. I mellowed when I had children of my own and you see things in a different light, it takes a bigger man to walk away. But the sheer embarrassment of it all was awful, grandsons a good kid, has his moments and like most this day and age is a little hyper at times, but there's one thing with him is that he will tolerate so much then snap which I am happy with. As I see it if the teachers can't stop the bullying etc and it persists then I will never punish him for sticking up for himself, he is well within his rights to stick one on whoever, that's exactly what I did at school and believe me It works ! If a had turned my back and passed wind he would of been out the gate first Edited December 11, 2015 by craftycarper

walshie
If all that bloke has to worry about is his little kid having a scuffle with another little kid, lucky him. craftycarper
Well he wasn't at the school this afternoon so all was well, apologised to the teacher again and a support teacher took me to one side and said you did nothing wrong so end of I hope

The downside of the wisdom of shunning avoidable conflict is that the monster inside will surely vent his frustration upon you! The price some of us pay for a balanced approach in order to retain our credibility as responsible adults! Well done again and as for the boy, character is built with the bricks of self-construction and will eventually form the house that you will dwell in when you are a man, and it looks to me as if your grandson has started with firm foundations.
