Which smart phone?

A sad time is upon me, my iPhone 5 is struggling along now, 6 years old and it's never missed a beat. But it's slow now and a bit clogged up and not been supported with updates for a while now.

So am looking to replace and upgrade my phone. I will be buying handset only. I would love a iPhone 6 but the cost is silly.

What do you recommend ?

The Samsung Gallaxy S5 seems sensible money, do any of you use one and if so what are your thoughts on yours?

If you've used iOS for the past hundred years do not get an android phone! Despite using a Windows OS on the computer and vehemently hating Mac I tried an android phone after 2 years with an iPhone 4. I hated it!! iOS is what Nokia was when mobile phones became mainstream. 15 years ago Dad has a Nokia 3210 with changeable covers, vibrating alerts, polyphonic ringtones and snake it was incredible! Screw the smart phone get a 3210. Or a 5210 but don't sit on the unbreakable case because the screens break!

I've always had iPhones since they came out. They are brilliant handsets that are great at everything apart from being a phone. They are terrible phones! The sound quality is poor, the signal strength is very poor in areas where other phones on the same network are good. The calls just drop out for no reason. I won't be buying another one when my contract is up.

iPhones are cheap enough to now if you go up to the 5s or c I have the 6s and I'm sick of paying apple for a lot of apps you get for free on android.but if you have used apple for a long time now I think the change might do your head in until you get used to it.atb

I now have a Huawei 4G Y635, cheap, takes an SD card, has GPS, decent camera, good sound, good screen, works well, cost under £70!

:good:

You guys are missing a trick if you don't look at the chinese phones. Everyone always says get an iwhatever or a samsung.

I recently took a punt on a Huawei ascend G7, it cost me £135 and as far as I can see will do the same as any of the latest phones. There are so many brands to choose from, why anyone pays up to 6-700 for a phone these days is mental.

This is a thread on av forums that might help you look beyond iphone and samsung and £50 a month contracts.

Get a galaxy note4 you won't want or need any other phone.

Although I've just upgraded to IPhone 6s Plus - the Note 4 was my previous phone and I can safely say it was equally as good as my current iPhone.

I'd thoroughly recommend the Note 4, a solid, well made, reliable phone, with the capability to do much much more than any other phone and now will be much cheaper on contract because it came out 2 years ago.

It's a big vibrant screen, with the built in, multipurpose stylus which you can navigate around the phone, make notes with, draw, cut and paste with save abstracts of text (I used massively last year for uni and I found it incredibly helpful)

Yes I've converted to Apple but that's just because I fancied a change:) if you do get a Note 4 you won't regret it

The good thing about I phones is how resistant they are to broken screens and the ease with which the battery can be replaced.rarely needs software updates

oh, hang on.

I've got an S5 and it's utterly bomb proof. gets an inordinate amount of abuse from dust, spills and drops on site yet not a single mark. In the same period my daughters have had half a dozen screen replacements.
