Help with scope

Just bought some new medium mounts for the scope, only problem I have is the front of the scope is touching the barrel making it hard to adjust the focus. It's only just touching by about 0.3 mm

 

How can I raise it slightly?

You need a higher set of mounts.

 

Even if you could raise it by the barest fraction, it's entirely possible that recoil would cause the scope and barrel to make contact, knocking off zero or even wrecking the scope.

How about a wrap of insolation tape as thick as needed

you could try a small shim, in the past I have used a piece of plastic cut from an old set of venetian blinds as it already had a slight curve. If you try it be aware that the halves of the mount wont come together as close and don't overtighten. Should have said under the scope on the bottom half of the mount.

Seconded - A strip of metal from a beer or soft drinks can will do.

How about a wrap of insolation tape as thick as needed

Insulation tape squishes around and migrates al over the place - masking tape is much better.

35mm film negatives are ideal, one or two slices under the bottom should do, they don't compress and won't damage the scope body.

 

Don't forget to shim the rear mount as well so the scope stays level.

Right coke can strip it is then, take it the recoil won't effect this?

Did the same mistake the other day just went out and got higher mounts saves all the faffing about.

Once shimmed go very easy on the tightening up

I would firstly look at the cost of a proper set of mounts. If there just around £20 I personally think it would be a better option.

Yes I agree that shims would correct it but why bodge the job ?

If it's missing at all that'll do then

Make a shim out of a 12g case -cut a tube about the width of the mount then cut it in half-pop it under the scope and jobs done.

That sounds like a good idea - I know he has cartridges too.
