toontastic
Following on from scullys post on covers, are there any cover versions that are so bad they should be illegal. I'll get the ball rolling with Will Young and Gareth Gates murdering "the long and winding road"
Jamesey1981
Sheryl crow, sweet child of mine. I quite like her, but that was unforgivable. I also once caught a bit of X factor and someone was murdering "the show must go on" by queen, don't think it was released and I don't know who it was, but that's one to leave alone, Freddie Mercury wrote it when he found out he was dying. To be honest I think X factor should be illegal, and when I come to power Simon Cowell is first in the wicker man. tx4cabbie
Under the bridge by the red hot chilli peppers, strangled painfully to death by Allsaints. That was a favourite of mine, marred forever by their soulless counterfeit.
tx4cabbie
Leonard cohen's hallelujah was covered beautifully by Jeff buckley, and then alexandra Burke came along and mullered it.
Scully
The Great Pretender by Freddie Mercury. I wasn't that keen on the original and the cover made me less so.
figgy
Any covers that have been made into the upbeat club versions. Ruined perfectly good songs so people off their mitzies can flail around.

Cambsman
Comfortably Numb by the Scissor Sisters. They should be taken outside and publicly thrashed!
figgy
Comfortably Numb by the Scissor Sisters. They should be taken outside and publicly thrashed! Looking at them they look like they would enjoy that.
will2490
Leona lewis cover of Snow Patrol- Run... one of my favourite songs ever, ruined. Heard a dance remix of Sweet Child O'Mine once.. and once was enough

lord_seagrave
Under the bridge by the red hot chilli peppers, strangled painfully to death by Allsaints. That was a favourite of mine, marred forever by their soulless counterfeit. Ah, now I'm totally the opposite. I actually prefer the AllSaints cover to the original. And for bad covers? It's got to be anything by Robson and Jerome. LS

keg
Leonard cohen's hallelujah was covered beautifully by Jeff buckley, and then alexandra Burke came along and mullered it. I thought it was just me that thought she killed it. I don't like that breathy warbling sound. A lot sing that way now. KD Lang did a good cover as did Jon Bonjovi and Rufus Wainright. DrBob
Madonna's "American Pie" was absolutely dreadful. Almost as bad as "Father and Son" by whichever boyband murdered it.
CaptainBeaky
Bread's "Everything I own", as murdered by Boy George, especially the coda, which is supposed to be slower, not in THE SAME BLASTED REGGAE BEAT! And from the same source, "If" as wrecked by Telly Savalas - so bad, it's actually funny. And as noted above, definitely anything by William Shatner...
