kennett
Has anybody seen much in the way of wild chicks this year? (except ducks!) I'm sitting watching another storm roll through and probably another 15-20mm of rain, to go with the 75mm we have already håd this month. Surely very little would be able to survive this constant wet, especially now the grass and crops are so tall and thick
Konnie
Saw some about 2 weeks ago, nearly the size of partridges, and last week saw one the dog found already dead only a couple of days old, don't think anything hatched in the last 10 days here would have survived. Don.t think we are really noticing because there are no floods like a few years ago. but I think it's going to be a poor year around here for wild stock. lots of rain and low temperatures. JDog
This evening I watched a barren pair of Grey partridges and a single unpaired cock bird. No chicks for those three this year.
kennett
Not looking good, seen nothing on my 600 acres. I'd like to upgrade the 15-20mm to more like 30-40mm we had a constant torrential downpour for 3 hours!
Scully
Feel quite guilty by stating we have quite a few! Landowners Dad reckons he hasn't seen as many before, but we haven't had a decent spell of rain for some weeks now, with mostly very hot dry weather. Have to dunk my dog in the river every night as it's far too hot for her.
kennett
You can have some of ours! We have buckets in the bedroom and kitchen catching the drips from a leak somewhere in the roof!
Penelope
Not looking too good for our little exploit is it. This evening I watched a barren pair of Grey partridges and a single unpaired cock bird. No chicks for those three this year.
marsh man
In mid Norfolk last night they had thunderstorms that flooded roads and houses , it was reported they had 50 to 90 mil of rain in a very short spell and even today there are still roads impassable . As for wild game , its not looking good with every where soaked and very little insect life , except for the flies that is , always plenty on my dead pigeons
kennett
We had 36mm in the end. Our forestry guy from Essex had 56, and at one point his weather station clocked up rain fall of 90mm per hour!
Scully
You can have some of ours! We have buckets in the bedroom and kitchen catching the drips from a leak somewhere in the roof! Thanks for the offer, but we still have plenty left over from December.
norfolk dumpling
Although we too here in Sth Norfolk have had some wicked storms wild pheasants hatched early so we've got quite a few month old chicks about. Haven't seen any partridge broods so suspect they've had a bad time.
snarepeg
Nice covey of English( 17, )and flying well. But the only one so far, must have come of a bit early?
matone
Seen a handful of pheasant broods this week,2-4 weeks old ,mostly 6 young,a brood of 10 was seen by the sprayer man 3 weeks ago when they could flutter over the standing crop. No partridges seen yet,it`s been bad for them at hatching time.

Walker570
Saw a pair of Frenchies with so many I couldn't count accurately, probably a dozen or more. Up near Bolsover. My pheasants have had a bad time with only one or two poults following hens about. Still wet today but promises drier the next week or so and rising temps. Nearly froze to death two nights ago in a high seat even with a fleece on. Edited July 12, 2016 by Walker570

Alycidon
Not seen a single wild poult this year so far, rain in mid June killed what there were I suspect. A
rimfire4969
Last week I was at one of our pens and a poult was trying to get in the pen, no one of ours as it was far to big so must of been from an early wild brood. An hour later at the same pen I also came across a hen bird with at least 4 chicks no more than a week old. Two different ends of the scale and great to see. kennett
Finally seen my first wild broods, pheasant and 8 young chicks, looked like a second brood. Hopefully some warm weather and plenty of food about for them now
Diygamekeeper
Brood of pheasant this morning about 5 weeks old.
Walker570
Yes, the 20 odd hen pheasants I normally see on the feeder in my wood have gone very quiet, so I hope they are all on second clutches. Only a couple of old cock birds on patrol but they have lost the need to chase each other. Any day now we should see the results.
