craig1982
Looking to change my old 12 gauge SxS for an OU. Got approx. £450 to spend. All my shooting is Pigeon, Crow, Rabbet etc. Should I go for a new Baikal or are there better options S/Hand for £450 ?

wymberley
I had a need for a cheaper gun for a specific purpose and picked up a double twin trigger ejector Laurona (think it's called an Eibar - 3" magnum, but that is of no consequence) for a good price - had it been multi choke, it would have been nearly twice as much and about the figure that you mention. I have to say that both I and my oppo are very impressed with the way it handles.
BerettaSV10
Lanber's have a good reputation, although no longer in business the last I heard GMK have plenty of spares for them if ever needed. Wingman
Speak to Mick wabbitbosher he'll sort you out. Can't go wrong with a Baikal though my mate uses his all the time for game and clays and shoots it better than his B425.

tomaddy525
Cant help thinking you'd be better off getting a second hand Browning/Beretta/Miroku? Something like a bog standard, grade 1 Miroku MK70 will outlast you, never fail and do pretty much anything you ask of it

ChrisPCarter
I'm located near Helmsley North Yorkshire. I was up there today on a small shoot. After owning a couple of Miroku's I'd look around for an older one of those, they never seem to fail and are great quality.
craig1982
Looking at various websites a Lanber may be in my price bracket. I will keep my eyes open. Thanks for the info.
Duckandswing
There's a nice Mcnab for sale on this site at around that price
MAB1954
Its up to you, you can buy a second hand Browning/Beretta/Miroku what ever and pay the price for the brand name. I have mainly CZ rifles and Spanish and American shotguns none of which cost me a great deal. I look after them and they work for me that simple. For your budget you will get a nice work horse O/U or a nice Spanish SxS.
figgy
I'm located near Helmsley North Yorkshire. Not far from York guns they have Baikals in stock. If a Baikal fits you it will be a great gun to use for rough shooting,or try a cheap semi auto. As others have said ask bosher on here he will get you one. Get it sent to your closest gun shop. craig1982
Not really fussed about the maker, my other shot guns are an old Ugatecha SxS which I 've had for years. A Beretta SA which is years old. Both gun get walked round the fields and put in the back of my Landrover. As long as the next gun can live with that, I will be more than happy. I suppose that's why I asked about a Baikal.
craig1982
Regarding Baikal's. I was reading on another site that Baikal ejectors eject the spent cartridge and the unused cartridge when the barrel is broken. Is this true or was the gun in question faulty ? figgy
Faulty they should only eject the spent cartridge.
Old farrier
Faulty they should only eject the spent cartridge. There was a period when all the single barrel guns ejected on opening weather fired or not ☹️️ Although a new one shouldn't do it now 😊
Harry Callahan
There's a nice Mcnab for sale on this site at around that price Very nice gun, from a very sound guy! Maybe not really what the OP is after though? My local dealer has a Sportarmi (sp?) single trigger o/u for around £200 IIRC which would have been ideal as a 'work' gun. Handled nice - if slightly short LOP for me (the reason I didn't buy it in the end), very tight and fresh feeling. Alycidon
Cant help thinking you'd be better off getting a second hand Browning/Beretta/Miroku? Something like a bog standard, grade 1 Miroku MK70 will outlast you, never fail and do pretty much anything you ask of it Agreed, a fixed choke Miroku 700 or 3700 would be fine and far nicer handling than a newer but lower grade weapon from some of the other brands suggested, A
craig1982
Alycidon Wasn't that a Deltic loco ? or a race horse. looked at the prices of second hand Miroku's. The majority look well out of my budget. I'm a keen shooter with well over 1500 acres of farm land to shoot over. It's all pest shooting, not bothered with game even if there is loads in North Yorkshire. My old Ugetecha serves me well, I would like a nicer looking gun.
