steve_b_wales
The best, in my opinion, are Winchester Sub Sonics. I have been using these for the past 25+ years, and have always found them to be consistent.
geordieh
Surely it depends what your rifle shoots well so you will have to try a few different makes to see which ones it likes

As mentioned though, I would get a box or two of various brands, and try them out. what make of ammunition did the previous owner use, and was it suitable? I still stick to my choice of Win' Subs. Hopefully, they will suit your rifle.
TaxiDriver
Whatever brand groups best through your rifle (I too use Winchesters) None of them are good fer rabbits
la bala
If its been used on a range perhaps hasnt had a sub through it.

Dougy
Dave, buy as many different brands of hollow point subs you can. They're not too expensive but what your trying to find out is which brand suits your rifle. You will very likely see on the targets which one's group the best. Your after sub 1 inch at 50 yards. It may seem a waste of money but like many of us it's a must to find the best marriage between rifle and ammo. It's no good going to the trouble of buying a nice rifle and scope combo only to skimp on the cheapest commodity.

la bala
lad lost his permission over a year ago said he couldn't remember what subs he used it's me who used it on a range last week thanks dave Sorry misread your post. My CZ 452 works best with Winchester Subs, but as has been said try a few different ones. And maybe try each batch from a cold barrel. Good luck, wise choice. fortune
In theory any bullet should be ok in any and every barrel of the corresponding calibre but it doesn't work out that way. Different aspects come into play such as diameter of the bore, length of the barrel and tons of other stuff like harmonics. Every barrel works best when the variables are minimised and the bullet leaves at the zero point of the isolation or barrel whip. The 22rf is no different. Mine is very good because it doesn't seem to be fussy but my favourite is RWS but I just shoot what I can get at a reasonable price.
berthaboo
Winny subs for my 425 in 22lr But I have heard down the line they are not as good and to give cci a try

Katash
I used win subs years ago but found them to be caked with wax on the bullet too much so switched to cci Is that still the case?
telf
i had problems with winnie subs with my last .22,seem to happen when they changed the packaging from blue to the new colour, whether they changed something in the manufacturing process or whatever but there was plenty of threads on the subject at the time on various forums
Vince Green
The best way to start is to walk into your local shop and find out what he sells, then buy one box of each and try them. It really depends what you can get these days. I used to buy RWS for a long time but I cant get them now so I buy CCIs Edited December 22, 2016 by Vince Green
cervusman
I never used sub sonic. I did pest control on 2 USFA bases for 13 years shooting 5-600 rabbits a week with Eley standard shooting only in the head. The subs make too much noise when they hit so spooks others around it.
