TaxiDriver
I cannot understand why finding a cheaper supplier seems so complicated. We've tried before and been asked for past meter readings over the year, how much on night rate, day rate etc etc Surely it simply boils down to find which billing company is charging least for a given unit ie KWh or Therm ? Added to any 'standing charges' Service charges, Billing charges ( I currently get charged for having a bill to pay rather than direct debit)
TIGHTCHOKE
You would think so. Several companies now offer the collective bargaining approach, gather people together, see what the companies will offer and then get people to sign up. Petrolprices.com are one I use. bruno22rf
You should get an Annual statement that gives you your actual usage over the previous year, units used and when, you will also see how much you have actually paid in total. Easiest solution when shopping around is to use this document.
old'un
As a matter of interest what are people paying for gas/electric per year, ours is around £1300 for gas/electric including standing charge.

What I was trying to say in my first post was ..."why should they need to ask or know ?" Surely the cheapest supplier is the one who's bottom line price per unit, kWh, therm or whatever is the lowest, ?? Taking into account any standing charges, billing charges of course. Mr. Merkel
I have just started looking around for cheaper electricity. So far the companies that l have had quotes from all want to know who l am currently with, what package l am on ect, if they want my business why don't they just quote me their cheapest tariff. So far the companies that l have had quotes from all want to know who l am currently with, what package l am on ect, if they want my business why don't they just quote me their cheapest tariff. Tim That's sort of what I was saying, surely it boils down to being the company who provides your gas/electric at their cheapest price per unit/therm or whatever ought to be the cheapest ? They shouldn't need to know who you're buying from now or at what rate.

HDAV
I just had an "annual statement" through from eon which shows 12 months usage, costs and comparison costs, fixed term deal ends next month so will be shopping around as I think it was expensive (per month) but a real eye opener was the previous 12 months prior to our moving in! We are 48% down on gas use!!!!! And I think we used far too much!!!!!! Also 24% down on electric!!!!!!!
Mr. Merkel
I saw an ad on TV last night about Flipper Energy apparently you sign up with them and they find the cheapest tariff for you and change the supplier on your behalf, they do this 4 times a year. Has/is anyone with or use them or have any knowledge of Flipper Energy. Tim
phaedra1106
I switched from CoOp (absolute disgrace) to Sainsburys (British Gas), over the last 2 years I've changed my tariff 3 times and received £250 in Sainsburys vouchers from them!, just changed from April 2017 to Feb 2018 and got a £100 voucher for doing so As above, once you know your annual usage it's easier to get a proper comparison, for two of us in a 2 bed bungalow we pay £100pm and have about £3-400 in credit at the end of the year which comes in handy at Christmas, that's with the gas C/H on permanently at 20/21c and we use quite a lot of electricity with PCs etc. on 24/7. Chris Bb
I checked on GoCompare recently. Current combined bill with SSE £1700, estimated with CoOp £1200. Even SSE have cheaper tariffs but haven't bothered to tell me! Come New Year I'm changing but earlier comments re the CoOp have me worried! Ah retirement, the time available to do such things. shaun4860
I'm with Eon, £56 per month for both, I get a dual fuel discount and a further discount for paperless billing I'm happy enough with that as I was paying £120 per month when I was with N Power, Biggest difference to me was getting a new boiler

Twistedsanity
They ask the questions to get as accurate a reading as possible so they can undercut it by the least amount to get your business. It's also very fluid as the suppliers buy in gas in bulk then sell it on, so today they might buy x amount at x price to fulfill their customers needs for the next month but tomorrrow the same amount might cost a huge amount more or less and they may have a few thousand more or less customers to supply, on the face of it it appears simple but there are many many factors that affect the cost and supply prices of gas, the Mrs works for a commercial gas supplier and the price per therm or unit they give a broker today can increase tenfold overnight if it isn't paid for or secured at the time the quote is given, many external.forces like currency fluctuations and changes in demand due to the weather or increases in costs by the transporter come.into play daily, it's like playing the stock market Edited December 31, 2016 by Twistedsanity
HDAV
Has anyone used utility warehouse, if so are they any good? Seen a lot of people selling it, not sure how many buy it, never used the service but known people who have and they have never said anything negative (not sure if that is a ploy and everyone you sign up you get a discount)
Lord Geordie
I currently pay around £300 per year for gas, and around £350 a year for electric in a 2 bed terraced.
kingo15
We looked at our bills the other night and to be honest we are with npower and thought they are extortionate. but in all honesty they arent. As of october they have stopped standing charges on electric meters the cost kwh is just as low as others. Same with the gas to be honest. I worked it all out and we could probably save a couple of quid if that. Just need to stop having the heating on and follow the other round and tune the lights off
amateur
Has anyone used utility warehouse, if so are they any good? Our younger daughter uses this and rates it very highly. I looked at it for us, but found SSE was cheaper for our circumstances
TaxiDriver
I got some yearly use figures this morning from SSE who're my current providers, Using these kWh figures for both gas and electric entered into the Uswitch.com website they reckon by switching to the CoOperative Society they claim I can save £220+ per year Is it really s simple as that ?
