pe4king
Whats the point then ??, it still stiffs the average person and pocketchange to your average kissballer or stockbroker, I know don't speed, but occasionally it happens to some of us

A bit more than that, around £74 I think. Just another government fund raiser.

It's dangerous driving that's the real issue, extreme speeding on small/busy roads, idiots driving too close, over and under taking, trying to do handbrakes turns or show off to some muppets. Danger-Mouse
I spend more hours on the road than most, from B roads to motorways and honestly I don't see that many people speeding. Certainly not excessive speeding.

VicW
Who is going to police this then, there are hardly any traffic police about these days ? The same reason mobile phone usage goes undetected yet the numpty politicians reckon the new laws work because there are less recorded offences. Vic. There are also plenty of fixed and mobile cameras.

Is benefits a wage now!! The fine should be for the Crime not the amount in the wallet. This! All crimes should carry a set punishment, and if it entails prison, then you get your release date when sentenced and if you don't behave in prison, then that date gets further away, none of this time off for good behaviour ****e. Davyo
Looking at the time graph, there will be no more % allowance. You will be to fined 50% of you wage if you do 31mph in a 30mph zone.

That's ridiculous. I guess we should all spend our time looking at the speedo rather than actually watching the road ahead.

SimpleSimon
I think (willing to be corrected, of course) that the 10% "allowance" is a feature of detection equipment, not an effective increase in the speed limit. So a camera requires you to be doing at least 33 in a 30 before it will be triggered. Now, I've been done for speeding twice (once pulled over by an unmarked car, knowingly exceeding the 50 limit on an empty rural dual carriageway, once by a camera van hiding under a tree as I lapsed over 30 coming down a hill) so I can't preach, but with my nerdy RoSPA biker's head on I'd say that if you can't keep an eye on the speedo without compromising your observations of the road, then you're driving too fast for the conditions anyway. What I'd really like to see is a driving test that actually assesses the candidate's ability to drive, rather than just operate the controls. Poor observations and poor planning are what cause accidents, and neither of those is taught properly to new drivers.
gustaff
slightly off topic but realy miffed me off as we live in a viilage just north of scarborough where two young children got killed by a speeding motor cyclist and have regualar speed camera van and solo tripod cameras are set up prosecuting people and pensioners for 32MPH TO GO ON SPEED AWARENESS COURSES.last week the tour de yorkshire cycle race came through the village total road closure hundreds of people including young children lining the route police motor cylcle officers stopping juctions off speeding through at speeed well in excessof the 30 mph for no reason what so ever other than there play time
four-wheel-drive
I think that all speeding fines and finds for other things like using a mobile or drinking just over the limit should be done away with instead people should have to do community work like picking up litter to for many people paying a small fine is no problem they just write out a cheque and forget about it. Make them spend half a day or more cleaning up are parks and roadsides then perhaps they would think twice before doing whatever it was they did people value there time more than anything fining people only ever hurts to pore who have to struggle to pay. Then they do what they do when you go on to a speed awareness course charge them £80 for the privilege of picking up other peoples rubbish not a fine a charge.
