DannyS
Seen one for sale online 05 plate 2.5 100k miles full service and looks in good condition. All ive done is read about endless amounts of engine issue and it's put me right off so, Is there even any point considering one because it seems like a pretty common fault going by online reviews? I always take online reviews with a pinch of salt but it seems to be an overwhelming amount of big end bolts slipping and conrods exploding out the engine?! Anyone with any experience or advice? Budgets pretty tight so as much as i'd like to get a hilux I dont think i can stretch before anyone suggests that lol. Cheers
Red-dot
They snap in two big time. Wouldn't touch one with a barge pole.

db135
Awful things friend bought a one brand new in 2005 d22 had a easy life never thrashed as he drives like a fanny serviced properly crank shaft went at 32.000 miles nissan weren't interested as it was out of warranty cost over 2500 to fix at sum engine engineering place who specialise in fixing nissins short falls he still never trusted it sold it in the end

fruity
There great trucks ive had a few over the years and always used the same guy to upgrade the big end bearings as they fail prematurely. Just had a 05 plate done myself with all upgraded parts by Paul gate , hcr auto centre , Google his name very well know is the Nissan world. The new xtrails have the same bearings as the older d22,s and the d40,s newer models suffer from the chains breaking , hence they recommend a duplex chain upgrades on thenbefore the single chain fails
Cyrus1988
What's your budget?, you might surprised what you can get a old hilux for.
johnnytheboy
The old model d22 were famous for con rod bolts strenching and firing pistons through the engine block, but the problem can be fixed with upgraded bolts The slightly newer models have been snapping timing chains but worse have a massive corrosion issue with the chassis which the older one doesn't have If your looking for a budget reliable 4x4 look for a Nissan terrano, they have taxi engines in them, some folk are putting these engines in the d22 navara
stuey
STAY CLEAR. Nissan is buying back thousands of them due to substandard chassis that are corroding. Navaras in the 05 to 08 age bracket, although newer ones have been showing corrosion issues too. Check out the Nissan Navara snapped chassis group on Facebook. https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/2791663/nissan-navara-safety-fears/ Cheers Stu

four-wheel-drive
Nissan are quite good at making cars and trucks but they do not understand that in lots of countries that get cold in the winter we tend to put salt on our roads to stop us sliding on the ice so we need ether galvanized chassis or lots of underseal on it to protect it from rusting I do like the look of the Nissan pickups but wood not buy one. I had to smile today I saw a Toyota high lucks pickup truck an old one it was with no rust in it but the fools had lowered it why on earth would you do that lift it to go over rough ground but lower it makes no sence to me. I forgot to say I do like the look of the Ford pickups and if something should go wrong Fords are usually not to expensive to repair unlike some Jap trucks can be if you can get the parts. the enigma
If you can buy it cheap enough, apply for the Navara scrappage scheme and you could make a few quid on it.

TBH i wanted to go for a pickup as i like the separation between you and all the carp in the boot lol. fruity
Thanks Fruity i'll check him out. what you think it will set me back for getting that done? Mine cost 1250 for the work what Paul recommended, the main bearings had collapsed so it wouldn't drive and some of the con rods had broke but luckily enough not came out the block , I paid for transportation costs on top Edited July 6, 2017 by fruity
bumpy22
just spoke to a farmer mate of mine who had the 2005 navara with split chassis. i put him in contact with a nissan service manager. they are now paying him £3500 out and giving him 20% off a new one if he wants that option. one happy man
DannyS
Went and saw one today and didn't love it tbh - strangely it felt small, especially inside. Gunna stretch my budget and get something i can put a little more faith in. Really like the Isuzu's, probably the rodeo
