Tarka
When out in the feild using your shotgun, would it be alright to carry a photo copy of your SGC or does it need to be the re mcoy? Reason i ask is that when i take mine with me, it gets a bit crushed and is looking tatty already! cheeers

taffygun
You don't have to carry it with you, although it does make it easier should you get approached. If you photocopy your licence apparently it will have a great copy of a 'counterfeit' watermark (haven't tried this so don't know). If you leave it at home and do get approached by the local plod just ask them to do a quick PNC check and it will show on your record that you are a current SGC/FAC certificate holder. Don't you have to then carry some form of proof of who you are; you could be giving a friends details?
mossy835
i all ways take mine with me but leave it in the van in the farm yard of witch farm i am shooting on.but you dont have to take it with you.
Cranfield
Its a pity they don't have a smaller version to carry with you, similar to the photograph driving licence. I always carry mine in a small wallet, in the zipped pocket of my shooting jacket, but I am always checking its still there.
mossy835
that was said 20 years ago about a credit size card for a shotgun cert, but nothing come of it.
Graham M
I think that you are asking for trouble if you leave your ticket at home because a police officer can, by law, remove a gun from you until proof of identity is produced. You may not think that this is a problem, but in reality it may mean chasing around to try and recover a very expensive shotgun/rifle that is being held in a police station. And you can bet your life it won’t be being kept in a nice padded gun cabinet. I have heard of very expensive guns being returned with damage to their stocks and dents in their barrels, so unless you want to take a chance that you may have to take out a compensation clam against your local plod…….take your ticket with you. dazza
over here we can carry a photocopy with the word 'fake' wriitten across it
Markio
I have 'borrowed' my dads old padded fishing seat/bucket. It holds my cert, clay ground tel numbers, muffs, glasses, camo hat, cleaning gear, folded camo blind, 6 shells deeks etc. It's bulky yes but takes no time to sling in the boot of the car. I know if i take this box i have everything i need for clays or rough shoot.

Bazooka Joe
I think that you are asking for trouble if you leave your ticket at home because a police officer can, by law, remove a gun from you until proof of identity is produced. This was explained in detail whilst my renewal for my SG Cert was taken place, if the plods in question couldn't get in touch with our FEO at the time, they would be in there rights to take the gun until I could prove who I was. Tony9r
Always carry mine in a wallet. My FEO said a photo copy was fine for proof
Dunkield
I carry scanned copies of permission letter and FAC ON ME but the original FAC in the car and permission letter at home in a file with all my stuff. njc110381
I usually carry a photo copy of my cert in my van. I've never been asked for it, but there's always a first time!
ozzy518
I always have my sgc with me when out shooting , though i have never been asked to produce it, it will save time and trouble if i am ever asked for it. Even if you dont have your sgc with you, provided you have another form of ID the nice policeman can check the police national computer where against your name it will hopefully say. " yes he has a shotty ticket and this is the serial number". No need to wake the FEO up any more.
tuck1
A copy is fine. A bobby wants to know if you are who you say you are, if you are breaking the law, and if you are posing a threat. Any more than that, they must be having a very quiet night! With the new national database, it should be easier than ever to check. I have been checked in the past. Many years ago, myself and a friend were lamping rabbits on a farm. We saw blue lights approaching us, coming up the field, so unloaded our guns and put them down in clear view. By the time the police car got to us, we both had out licences ready. The officers had a quick chat, apologised for bothering us, glanced briefly at the paperwork, and apologised again. Job done. They went on their way. Ten minutes later, we saw torchlight coming back up the field as one of the officers returned. Could we give him a tow, as he was stuck in the mud? No problem! Not really built for off road, the Ford Escort!
Highlander
I believe it's a legal requirement that you carry your SGC/FAC with you when your out with your guns. This may be in the form of a copy BUT if the boys in blue want to be a pain about it they can be!
al4x
its not a legal requirement to carry it and some FEO's actually advise against it as its far more agro to deal with a lost ticket. Personally I don't usually carry mine but I've always got photo ID with me so that can always be checked.

al4x
you have to write new guns on so no, they are a piece of A4 which is partly laminated. But they do start to look pretty raged if you carry them round and there is always the chance of loosing it
