Things you really need to know about ultrasonic.

When the temp of the water gets high, they don't work well.

Add detergent to the water to transmit the waves.

It takes about 3 mins to degass the water before propped cleaning starts.

 

Also use an appropriate detergent, aka brass safe or whatnot.

Regarding about the water temperature affecting it working, I heat up some Birchwood Casey case cleaner in in the microwave, then use the sonic cleaner to clean the brass. It works well and I've never had a problem. I usually give the brass 2 x 8 minute cycles, and then come out very clean.

We ultrasonic stuff for hours. It gets hot.

I might have to get one now :) also some rumour you can put watches in them to tidy up!

Picked up one this morning for use in the workshop - cleaning gunged up carburettor parts - but have already had it appropriated by SWMBO to clean her rings and spectacles.

 

Excellent job on those.

 

I'll let you know on the carb bits if I can prise it off her
