Zetter
Hi All I'm currently applying for my .243 and plan to reload for it mainly for deer stalking but also probably some lighter fox loads. Any recommendations on what powders its worth looking at? Preferably one which not being banned under the new REACH regulations as I don't want to start working up a load and fin out the powders being banned which is the current case with my .17 Hornet loads and H4198. steve_b_wales
I use Hodgdon 4895. Check out the site: http://www.hodgdonreloading.com/data/rifle
super sharp shooter
Personally I use vhit 140 for my 243 with less than half inch groups and is easily available. This seems to be good for bullets up to 87grn so depending on you bullet weight you might need.
Jaymo
Steve isnt that one go8ng on the banned list too?
Zetter
Cheers Steve and Super Sharp Shooter Steve is H4895 heading for the banned list? It appears so from some of the stalking directory posts. Super Sharp Shooter Thinking 100gn or 105gn for the bullets for deer as at the moment I am mainly booked in for Reds so need something with a bit of clout. Then probably 60gn for fox control. Vhit 140 looks liker it does the job and as its an EU powder seems to be ok under REACH

Jaymo
I’m actually experimenting with some Swiss RS powders, early results seem acceptable.

Graham M
I use 45grns of H414 and a 70grn TNT bullet. Absolutely insane destruction of foxes with no runners. Unfortunately it will be banned along with other Hodgdon's powders. Removal Of Certain Smokeless Powders From The EU Market As many already may know, certain smokeless powders will be banned from the EU market shortly, following the REACH guidelines for certain chemical compounds being located within the powder. Robertt
Stock up with H4895 before it goes. Used it 70 through to 95g in .243. Top accuracy. ?
Benthejockey
Shame about H4895 it works well for me with 62 Barnes varmint grenades and 100g sierra soft points. I was shooting bottle tops at 80yds where I used to zero. And deer and foxes were deathly allergic to it.
steve_b_wales
My mistake. I use Vit N150 for my .243. H4985 is used for my .204 and H4198 for my .22 Hornet. Time to order a few tubs.

rimmie
It’s as popular as BLC-2 for the .204, great powder.

Vince Green
The Hogdon powders are imported by Edgar Bros. If the bulk of the powders are banned will it be worth their while importing just the ones that aren't? I doubt it

steve_b_wales
I’m going to get a few tubs of H4198 & H4895. These, plus the amount I have now should see me okay for at least another two years, as I have reloaded a few 100 of each caliber.
Redgum
Viht 160 works well for me with 100gr sp's in 243, easy to source and a good price.

Vince Green
I have noticed the Swiss powders appear to have undergone a bit of a price hike, you don't need to wonder why that is. It does lead to another question though, when the US sourced powders stop being imported. Is the supply chain of Vhit and Swiss capable of taking up the slack or are we going to have shortages? I have been shooting a long time and I have seen shortages before
