Waterproofing jackets.

There are always numerous threads asking which jackets are recommended for days out in the field.

Concerning non wax jackets Schoffel, Musto, Partridge are amongst those commonly mentioned but there are countless others.

Keeping the jackets waterproof is a management job. My jackets which are over ten years old are as waterproof now as when they were new. To achieve this I wash them regularly (but not frequently) using Nikwax tech wash which cleans the jacket followed by another wash in Nikwax tx.direct wash in which provides the waterproofing in the fabric.

These products can be obtained from many retailers including Millets.

I have tried the nikwax products and none worked for me unfortunately. Perhaps I was doing something wrong, I don’t know, but amongst others I have two Musto jackets and a Laksen, none of which have ever been treated in the 10 plus years I’ve owned them and none have ever let me down in any weather.
