Oly
I agree wholeheartedly. At least it has been reported fairly, without making shooting out to be a massive danger to all etc etc. Plus they have included good quotes from family and friends which all help put a positive spin on such a tragic accident. Finally...at least it hasn't gone national...then the media might have pulled it in the wrong direction!
Graham M
It does however show the very real dangers of two people sharing a hide. G.M.
webber
Absolutely tragic. Most of my pigeon shooting has been conducted 2 up with McF, we trust each other totaly, and follow a strict code that only one gun is loaded at any one time. You may mis the odd opertunity, but you wont accidentaly shoot your mate. webber
Spaniel
Its so sad, But we all must remember that safety must always come first. Terriable News Ian
starlight32
I do-not feel that incidents like this are reported well via the media. In the report it states that the two of them were 'shooting at birds from a hide', this automatically leads to a poor conception of what they were doing and therefore placing unwanted hysteria on the event. Regards starlight32
pin
Very sad news and my sympathies are with the family. I have to say it though, accidents don't "Just happen". If you never ever point a gun or allow a gun to be pointing at someone then you can't easily shoot them no matter what happens. This includes not resting it against things when it is loaded, or anything like that.
Cranfield
It does suggest there was more than one gun in a hide, although we mustn't jump to conclusions on such a brief report. Like webber, I will not shoot in a hide with two loaded guns, in fact if there has to be two people, I insist on only one shared gun. However the accident happened it's a tragedy, not only for the lad and his family, but also the other lads involved in the incident.
al4x
It is a tragedy and I have to say i'm with Pin. i do shoot with trusted people from a hide but you only shoot 1 at a time and the gun is always pointed away from the other person and never left loaded leaning up against the hide. Its all about basic safety and I wouldn't shoot in a hide with anyone I wasn't 100% sure of.
pin
I have spent a fair while in hides and shooting rifles with SS. You have to be over the top and exaggerate every safety element and demonstrate state of the weapon whenever moving it, handing one over or anything like that. Communication is absolutely key, what we do might seem over the top to some but you get to make mistakes with guns which you can't undo by saying sorry. Bagsy
My thoughts go out to the family, tragic accident for all involved. As Cranfield mentioned you've also got to feel for his mates who were with him, they will have to live with the memory of what happened. loopy bunny blaster
what a waste of life, it just shows how careful you must be around guns. a bloke my dad knows called jeff once discharged a 12 gauge through his foot whilst climbing over a gate, he was very lucky. it could of been much worse.
