Cawdor118
Has anyone ever compiled a table or list of the most successful cartridges per year? With the wide variety of choice out there, I'm surprised the marketing guru's haven't jump on the chance to say "we won 'x' trophies this year". You see Gamebore White gold with Digweeds success' - what about the rest? Which cartridge has won the most major championships?

I'm only asking out of interest as to claim you are "the most successful cartridge manufacturer ever" would be phenomenal for marketing. matone
Got to be Eley Grand Prix given that they`ve made them for many decades and were the main cartridge in the marketplace.

Apart from some small retailers/gunmakers selling their own brand shells locally ..........there was little or no widely available choice! In the early 1960s when I first started shooting there was very little choice, bar paper cased Eley Grand Prix. We didnt have a `proper` gunshop for miles, so it was Grand Prix or nothing. The ironmongers where we bought them occasionally had Alphamax in stock which we treasured for ducking, albeit the price was a jump up from Grand Prix. Yellow Wizard then came along and undercut Eley, but my recollection was that they were pretty awful and we had the occasional weak charge where you heard the shot rattling down the barrel. London Best
Yeah! Remember Yellow Wizards. Then there came Red Rival and Blue Rival. They were, I remember, on a par with Yellow Wizards. When I started Grand Prix were 10shillings and sixpence for 25. I pax were 10 shillings and threepence, so I bought Impax to save threepence. That is one and a half pence to anyone under fifty. Yep, but us oldies were probably only earning £10 or £15 a week back then, so 10 bob on cartridges was quite an outlay !
dipper
Grand Prix seems cheap even way back.when I was at school 16 bore gran prix were 14/3 in 1958.. Shooting times was 9p.No choice then.
London Best
I guess sixteens cost more than twelves even then. I didn’t start shooting until 1960, so my memory would be early ‘60’s prices. Unless we’re all so old and senile none of us can really remember. (Looking forward to incontinence and dribbling in my pudding.)

London Best
When I had my first air gun I had a mate who would cycle five miles on a Saturday morning and use all my pellets. So I made him bring his own pellets. Then he wouldn’t go home until he had fired his box of 500 Beatalls. Through my bloody gun.
