They can charge what they want, so I reckon £60 isn't too bad. Some have had to pay up to £200!
nellywinner
My Doctors charged me £25. But took 8 weeks to get letter, next time will just use the service of MedCert online.
sharpeshooter60
thanks mate,do they just look at my record or do i have to see a doctor, cos not shaw who my doctor is?
nellywinner
You don't have to see Doctor, the Doctor compiles a confirmation letter of your medical history to send direct over to Police. If there are any concerns from this the Police follow up with yourself.
wymberley
In my humble opinion, no, it's not fair. Only because I've just renewed my two and it's a virtual certainty that they'll be my last so I can say that I've never had to submit or pay anything other than the application forms and the appropriate fee. old man
Vote with your feet? MedCert for £50.00 Job done!
Walker570
Never needed one yet. Just put the name and phone number of my Doctor on the application. It is a load of old round bouncy things. I don't need a letter from my Doctor or Eye specialist when I renew my driving licence and compare how many road accidents there are to shootings due to mental problems. Miniscule. Just another way of the authorities to screw gun owners.

Just another way of the authorities to screw gun owners. I checked with my doctors prior to renewal thinking they were against, I was right, they said no response would be forthcoming from them so i contacted Staffs and informed them of response and said if required it would be MedCert. No more heard and certs reissued. Had a big problem with Driving licence when I declared being routine monitored for Glaucoma which I had previously openly declared I thought my mother had? Well special eye test for them with a threatening letter of having a week to comply or current licence gone. Eventually confirmed as fine to drive without glasses......... a shame really that they don't spot check up on some blind **** I meet locally? Sadly, maybe another indication of the law being applied to the abiding?
Bigbob
While i paid £20 ( there's no set fee its all pocket money to the doctor ) its not a legal requirement and before Covid the BASC etc where questioning it
steve_b_wales
It's only £10 more than BASC /MedCert charge and far less hassle.

Dougy
I refused to pay, and received renewal, Staffs. If things change in the future then so be it.

Mr.C
I know mine are refusing, was all fine until Sussex chief constable arbitrarily decided to shift the burden of responsibility last January.
