The pain really was horrendous, and it’s eased quite a bit now, but has really slowed me down.
One good thing has come out of it; the duty Dr said I had a very slow pulse rate for my age, signifying how fit I was! Nice lady! 🙂

Get your coat, you've pulled!  :good:

Interesting to hear the details of using Ibuprofen.

I used to take a lot of it but now use 30/500 co-codamol along with the strong painkilling gel.

Rest up, take small amounts of warming liquids to raise your spirits.

I’ve been taking regular Ibuprofen this week after aggravating my already dodgy back pulling Fallow about.
I do worry about taking too many of any tablets.

I concur with the advice in your last line.

Having snapped off various parts over the years but fortunately avoiding ribs I fully advocate codeine! Apparently there's a risk of addiction but it's never felt that way with me - I have to be hurting otherwise it makes me feel sick! - and whiskey. Sleep and put your feet up and left it heal. If you rush it you'll regret it.

Scully .... I can fully understand your first thoughts were letting the keeper down , I was exactly the same when my motor broke down on the morning of the shoot a few weeks back , over the years I have been very reliable when it comes to a planed shooting day , I drove the guns and placed them on their pegs for over ten years without missing a day , now I find with a doggie back it isn't that easy anymore , yesterday I took two co-codamol before I went and by dinner time I was ready to take two more , we only done one drive after dinner and I found a nice tree stump to sit on while waiting for the guns to come out of the hall after dinner , when the pain killers kicked in I felt not to bad for a worn out 74 year old

In my mid 40s when my back first played up the doctor gave me ibuprofen and some other pain killers that are now banned , after a few days I felt really light headed and stopped taking the pain killers and just took the ibuprofen , what a mistake that was , after tests at the hospital they said the tablets had taken a piece of lining off my stomach and it haven't been right from that day since , needless to say I never took another ibuprofen tablet .

Get well soon and I bet you will be shooting and beating before the season end , or I hope so.:good:

Mmmm, thought things would have improved a tad with the painkillers, but I think I’d have a case for suing under the trades description act. If anything the pain is worse and I ain’t doing a lot of anything! Even belching is horrendous!

Broke 3 ribs in one go playing rugby years ago in the Army, breathing became a hard chore, sleeping very difficult and generally doing anything was just hard work and painful, after 3 weeks i tried to do a basic fitness test (1.5 miles run in 15 min in group, then 1.5 miles individual effort in under 10.5 mins) i failed by 10 secs it nearly killed me, took another 3 weeks to get back to a position that i could start training again.
The next year playing rugby i cracked my sternum top to bottom (it was at this point i decided to retire from rugby)And suddenly 3 broken ribs and breathing was a doddle , the cracked sternum was on another level.

Rrmember to try and take a full breath every 10-15 mins to stop moisture building up in your lungs

I did my sternum years ago when I tripped up and ran into a skip 🙈😂. That’s twice now .

The pharmacy wouldn’t sell me co codamol until I begged as I’d be on them 3 weeks already.

I’ve knocked the paracetamol on the head and started taking ibuprofen with the codeine, and actually managed a very leisurely dog walk! Have to stop to take deep breaths now and then, but even those are doable now if I take it steady. Belching is still horrendous so fizzy drinks are out! 👍

Remember to take deep breath’s every so often 👍. It’s a good lung exercise.

The accident board outside his work only has double digits,  they've never needed more!

Does your Dr know you've been taking them for so long? My mum was pretty much doing the same and it lead to quite a few problems.

Yes, they are prescribed and they do check up on them.

Luckily I've never broken a rib but its definitely not on my too-do list After seeing s few friends experience this from my rugby days. You have my sincere sympathy!

Just on the constipation point raised there....After my wee bit of throat surgery a few years ago I was given the 30/500 cocodamol and 50mg voltarol as a companion and a weeks steroids. They failed to warn me about the consequences of the medication and to drink a massive amount of fluids. After the 8th day or not "going" I finally passed what felt like a broken bottle wrapped in barbed wire.

Thankyou, there are two tins of prunes sat on the table in front of me as I type! 👍
