Colman's mustard is for amateurs Taylor's is where it's at...

Yes, I used to get Taylor's, but it isn't easy to get locally.  I don't actually have much preference for one over the other - they are different, but I like both.

Being a lover of mustard had a look at Taylors but seems only sold on there webby or Amazon, shame would of liked to try it.

If you want a hot mustard, Tracklements "Spitfire" has chilli.  Alternatively Tewkesbury mustard (easily available in Tewkesbury, or some supermarkets) has some horseradish.

Recipe +pictures please 🙏 👍👍👍

I can put a bucket full of baking powder in and they still don't rise.

I have made them successfully - not 100% sure it was exactly this recipe, but if not, very similar.  https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/classic-cheese-scones

I don't recall the cayenne, but think I added a little black pepper.  Not tried mustard powder.

The mixture is incredibly sticky (a bit wetter than many baking mixes), and you don't want to work it too much would be my hints - along with not being tempted to keep opening the oven to 'see how they are doing'.

Do you not like the taste of the meat?
If I put mustard on anything, however little I use, that is all I can taste.

Mustard, horseradish, garlic and to an extent chilli (if not too hot) all bring out the flavour of the meat.

But I do know what you mean because coriander has a quite overpowering effect for me - bringing a strong taste of soap.  I have to go very lightly on coriander as my taste is inordinately sensitive to it's flavour.  But other than coriander, they add to and compliment the meat flavour

I love the taste of meat but the mustard brings a different dimension to the taste and texture, I get where you're coming from as I don't like these so called 'rubs' that some people smother over a steak when cooking.

A while ago, I couldn't finish a rather large pork pie with mustard.

I cut up the pie remains into small pieces for the cat (Doris) to eat, and put it on the floor. The first thing Doris went for was the mustard, then ate the pie afterwards.

only brown sauce with pork pie [ esp .bextons butchers] harrycat will know😜

Harry, i follow a guy on you-tube, john kirkwood, and to be honest his recipes come out 100%. If doing the cheese scones he says to use 3x baking powder as most flours have not got that ingredient added. Check him out, you will thank me for it. P.S. no gravy making on his channel 👍
