harrycatcat1
This is not my car I've pinched the picture off Facebook. Have you seen one worse?
Lloyd90
Bit too blurry to read, but reminds me of my dads old work van. Used to have to sit in the back as a kid and hold the sliding door closed as we drove home from the markets.
Stephen-H
It is a transit after all! My 55 plate transits had its inner & outer sills replaced & a few other bits brillant vans in there day tho
udderlyoffroad
It's from 18yrs ago! If you zoom in, it's dated 24/10/2005. That van is probably off the road by now. The clue is the handwritten fail sheet, according to google computerisation of the MOT system was completed in Mar '06.
London Best
It just shows what you are mixing with on the roads.
B725
But the government are looking at the MOT being every two year's and this is why it should be as is .
udderlyoffroad
They've been 'looking at' that since Christ was a cowboy. Won't happen. The idea was to have a stricter, German style TuV system every 2 years. Private garages have neither the time nor the inclination to go that route. "What's that, you have an aftermarket air filter fitted? Please show me the assessment paperwork from a certified engineer to ensure this modification is compliant...." Agriv8
Nah I know garages that would pass that in Bradford for the right amount of money ( just kidding) but I am sure i saw that number plate on the local school playing field! Scully
An old boy ( now long dead ) who worked at the local factory would buy his cars from the local scrapyard; all MOT failures and not road worthy. He would park them at the far end of the car park away from the road so they went unnoticed by passing cars and others. I recall him once asking one of the sparkies if he could fix his electrics as a pig he’d had in the back of his Escort van had chewed through the electrics! 😂 Edited October 18, 2023 by Scully
Gordon R
My eldest has a number of cars which require MOT - works vehicles and his daughters'. He has used the local main agents in Bolton and invariably gets a list of advisories, which usually amount to over a thousand pounds. I advised him to go to a garage nearby, owned by a friend of mine. Subsequently, three passed and one had one small job done. He specifically asked about previous advisories and was told the "faults" did not need doing.
London Best
Never, that’s NEVER, have your car MOT’d at a garage which does repairs. EVER!

That would've been good advice...in the 90s. A business that does exclusively MOT tests is a rare beast these days, as it's hard to make a profit and thus stay in business. Certainly it is round here, might be different in Derbyshire. Before anyone chimes in with 'council run' MOT centres, yes they do exist, but are increasingly rare, as councils cost cut (rightly in my view, either the state performs the MoT function as in NI, or it doesn't). Agriv8
My van is booked in at my local MOT station who services it ! There is never the expectation that he will get the work as he knows I might take the work elsewhere or do it myself! oh he’s also a shooting man ! enfieldspares
Back in the late 1970s my Triumph Vitesse 6 used to end up with so much yellow chalk on its chassis when MoT'd at Woodhouse Garage in Leeds it resembled a map of the Circle Line in London! After repair it resembled a mad artist's metal rendition of a patchwork quilt.

Crazy world isn't it any scrap car now is going for upwards of £200 -400 catalytic convertors on older cars that are genuine are worth more then steel of the car alone in some makes and models especially japanese models
