Another went into limp mode randomly, I bought a kicker from ebay, kept in plugged in and as it went into limp pressed the magic button, back to normal for anything from 1 mile to 1000. LR never solved the problem. I could go on but you get the gist. Because I wanted comfort off road I tried Nissan, comfortable but rubbish. I've compromised with a new Toyota Hilux every 3 years. Not a patch on the proper landies off road but reliable, reasonably comfortable and adequate for all of my permissions. Not overly expensive to run or insure and fetch almost what I paid when traded in at first MOT (Providing I pay for a valet and detailing as that puts around 1000 to 1500 on the price. Sadly your story is so typical of many 'owners' I know and speak to. As a long term Defender owner (the one on my avatar, a 200 tdi 90, has been with me 27 years now and will stay on) it greatly saddens me that it is this way, but they have been going that way for a long time. I have a 2014 Hilux 3L invincible (Mk7?) and prior to that a 2005 Rav4; both are and had been brilliant. Before that two, Mk1 Freelanders, petrol then a diesel, both had lots of issues. Unfortunately these days the pocket has to rule and with anything LR fetching a massive premium followed by the purchase of a back up vehicle for when it's being repaired, Japanese is the way to go. Only yesterday I looked at another D2, 4 litre petrol import from Japan, minimum of 20 years old £15k and then needs MOT, tax and UK registration. Puts it out of the average pocket. Miserableolgit Posted February 22 Report Share Posted February 22 I ran green oval products from the 1970's until 2014 when I bought my last new Defender 110 XS USW that I chopped in for a new 3.2 Ranger after I got fed up with the Defender going back and forth to the dealer for warranty fixes. I had planned to hold onto that Defender until the Ineos Grenadier went into production as I believed their initial hype about a sensibly priced, fixable, and affordable utility type 4x4, unfortunately I have been less than impressed with the final production vehicle - and cost! I'm still a LR type, and in fact have been co admin a long running forum dedicated to the marque since the mid 2000's. I'm not inclined to take a chance on a new Defender so replaced the Ranger with a new Isuzu D Max V Cross. Not sure what to get next. It has however been very reliable - which I put down (in part) to avoiding LandRover approved dealerships like the plague. For daily on road I have had a BMW 3 series touring (estate) for 17 years. It's been a pretty good car (though I was glad I had extended warranty) but it is coming to 'end of life'. Likely replacement will probably be a Toyota Land Cruiser, but they are expensive. When I started buying nearly new then new [and got lazy lol ] I used a mix of dealerships were [mixed experience] and decent independents. The latter were generally good but I still remember getting home after picking up one of the Defenders from a second service to find the back and underside of the vehicle covered in gearbox oil. Series 1 petrol, two Series 2A diesels, Range Rover Classic 4 door (dreadfully unreliable and thirsty), and a short spell with a Daihatsu 4 Track (surprisingly good off road and 100% reliable, but horribly uncomfortable). I personally have had a 1952 Series 1 (bought 1980 ish), a G-wagen 280 GEL (desperately thirsty, poor on road, good off road), BMW X5 (very good on road, very comfortable, poor off road) and my current Defender 90, bought 1995 and still owned.
