I think it really raises questions about our society and the balance of power between 'ordinary' people and the rich.

Yes indeed, look back at those PitA's who took out injunctions to keep the press quiet.

Just about anyone who worked for him could jump on the bandwagon, with a bumper pay day dangled before them.

Give previous matters which CPS didn't act upon and the numbers involved, it does seem to look bad for Al Fayed, although he can't admit or deny the allegations.

From the BBC News website;

"Mohamed Al Fayed was a "monster" who threatened his sexual abuse victims to stay silent, lawyers representing former Harrods employees told a news conference on Friday.

Giving harrowing details of what is alleged to have taken place, the legal team and one of Fayed's many alleged victims recounted how the former owner of Harrods used his power to force himself on women, had them followed and made them have sexual health checks.

The legal team representing 37 women who say they were sexually assaulted or raped by the late billionaire spoke publicly to outline how the former Harrods boss used "his wealth and power to manipulate and control victims".

how do you get money out of someone who is deaded...........did they succeed with saville....

As I understand it, the employer (e.g. Harrods) would be liable for duty of care if the victim was employed by the offenders employer/company.  As Fayed was owner/director of Harrods, Harrods will be liable for duty of care lapses.

This really isn't a topic suitable for tasteless jokes and irreverent comments. Very disappointing, but not surprising, please consider those abused in this and other occasions.

just sit back relax and wait because it’s now a certainty the massive police success with social media will be used on firearms ownership!

Hardly health and safety. More the process of buying a company. You taken on the debt and legal duties associated with its workforce. Without such measures the common man would have no chance against the ruling class!

From the BBC News website;

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cx2k9ggjdjdo

"The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has said it twice did not bring charges against Mohamed Al Fayed over sex abuse claims.

Fresh allegations are being made about the late billionaire who owned Harrods and who died last year at the age of 94.

A BBC documentary has led to dozens of women coming forward to say they were raped or sexually assaulted by Egyptian businessman Fayed.

The CPS said on Sunday it considered bringing charges against Fayed in 2009 and 2015 - but on both occasions it "concluded there was no realistic prospect of a conviction".

In 2008, the Metropolitan Police investigated Fayed after a 15-year-old girl said he sexually assaulted her in the Harrods boardroom.

The force said it handed a file of evidence to the CPS - a step which has to be taken before charges can be issued - but prosecutors decided no further action should be taken.

A CPS spokesperson said: “We reviewed files of evidence presented by the police in 2009 and 2015.

“To bring a prosecution the CPS must be confident there is a realistic prospect of conviction – in each instance our prosecutors looked carefully at the evidence and concluded this wasn’t the case.”

Three other investigations into claims made by three other women - in 2018, 2021 and 2023 - got to an advanced enough stage that the CPS was called in to advise detectives.

But, in those instances a full file of evidence was never passed to prosecutors."

And therein lies the problem.

The way I see it is that having a (no doubt very expensive) hotshot legal team, no independent witnesses, and it coming down to one persons word against another ........ where one person is a very prominent and wealthy man - it is clearly going to be difficult to get a jury to convict 'beyond reasonable doubt'.

It's the way the system is, but it is not always a good way.
