mellors
Introduced in 1972, this one-off payment offers a small financial boost to those receiving certain benefits, including state pensions, during the first full week of December. While the bonus is automatic for most, many may not realise they qualify or how to identify it on their bank statements.

I thought is was from your employer not from the pension, that sheds a different light on it . so a tenner off the government thats very nice off them, not quite as much as those just landed on the beaches though. Shambam1962
In my previous job of 25+ years, I would receive a bottle of malt whiskey, and a Christmas card with a thank you inside and £500 in notes. I have been lucky to have had 2 excellent bosses during my working career, and sadly my ex boss died last year just before Christmas . shaun4860
When I worked at Warburtons, the family (still a family owned business) put aside 3% of net profits aside to be divided amongst the workers. Based on time served and salary. New starters got 1/2 share, after certain length of time it went to full share, then 1 1/2 shares and so on to a certain level. Mine averaged around £1500 and paid on the 15th December. Originally it was tax free, then the first £1k was tax free then none of it was tax free. Dunno if they still do it 🤷🏻♂️

What amazes but is no surprise is that it's OK in our government to tell porkies about your working history but that seems irrelevant? A fiscal position too?
