what does give me hope at the moment is the appearance of the freedom of the women who are celibrating with their families ..in a variety of different costums...some are even not wearing headscarfes

dont forget before the Assad family took over Syria,,, the country was very westernised and cultured..and all religions co exisited with each other..................maybe there is some memory of that left they wish to return to

It’s another basket case of a failed state.

We in the West still possess a total lack of understanding and project our western liberal ideologies; ‘oh look Assad has gone, they can all now have a general election and get a democratically elected system of government put in place’. Not a chance. It’s just more blood shed as the door opens for the next batsh*t crazy regime to rinse the country’s wealth and resources. As someone posted on here recently - it’s just a different foot in the boot that remains on the neck of Syrian people.

Exactly! Another bloodbath is pending.

Reports are coming in that Russia has had to abandon a whole load of much needed kit, a warm water naval base or two and has men trapped inside Syria.

An interesting lesson for Russia (and the rest of the world) in being over stretched?

This must be a seriously embarrassing loss for Putin and I wonder what the Russian people make of this and his wider decision making.

There’ll be a few on here along soon to tell us what Russia Today have made of this brilliant strategic Russian withdrawal 😆

It would make sense but the rebel army will be less than well disposed what with the years of Russian airstrikes and gassing etc.

As an aside, Ukraine and Syria (and that mercenary fella’s abortive charge on Moscow) have showed that speed is everything in overwhelming unprepared / under motivated defence structures and systems.

Yes I watched a bit on the news and everything looked normal, men and women out on the streets and in cars, not just masked up men firing AKs into the air.

With sharply competing agendas, Turkey and Israel have already laid out what they say are their redlines regarding Syria, with Turkey saying it would not accept the Kurdish PKK or Islamic State benefiting from the new situation, even as it promised to help Syrian migrants in Turkey, which hosts some 3 million refugees, to return.

Hundreds of Syrian refugees had gathered at two border crossings in southern Turkey by Monday, eagerly anticipating their return after the fall of Assad’s government.

^^^^ Braver than me. Who knows what you are going back to.

From what I've seen of the camps refugees are in they are hellish , it's those that have gone further that I can't imagine going back.

And your right, they've no idea what will happen on their return.

There also reports of Iran being in communication with the new regime which makes sense.

Another TBD implication to all this is the fact Damascus was the hub through which all of the Russsian backed “Africa Corps” passed in and out of Africa through.

More petrol poured on the flames of an already volatile global instability fire. 2025 is going to be interesting, to say the least.

Labour has just sent over £11m for aid.

And to whom, precisely, you may well wonder?

We’ll have tax paying pensioners freezing this winter but we have spare money to spaff round the world.

Why is it so hard for any elected government to understand that this primary responsibility is to their own electorate?

Why do we want to get involved at all? Has history not shown us what a fools errand it is and how aid invariably never reaches the intended recipient. Let’s let the wealthy Arab oil states sort it all out.

I don’t know Tousi, just really don’t appreciate his “style”, this guys style is much better in my opinion and let’s face it the whole sherbang is so fubar it’s probably better to be slightly satirical about it all.
