yet another mass shooting in America.

I can never understand why in a country where the ownership of firearms is so common, the availability of guns to aquire in general appears to be fairly straightforward, plus given the historical track record of school shootings in the US, there is no armed security outside schools. 🤷‍♂️

Is it me?

It beggars belief, it really does.

There was a politician who said they should arm teachers. ???

Yes, I recall that, but it’s a typically idiotic dismissive comment by some campaigning empty head, as not every teacher may want to be armed, nevermind confront an armed attacker.
The most logical solution in my opinion would be to employ professional security. America must be swamped with them.

Sometimes NOT confronting said armed attacker isnt an option, they confront you, in that situation, I would prefer to be armed.
Its not for everyone obviously, and in some situations its not going to work (armed teacher is the 1st target being one) but Im sure it could save lives in others, and provide a deterrent to others ?

I wonder how many teachers would have it in them to shoot and probably kill a 15yr old girl ?.

Plus the level of training required to be effective and not more of a hindrance.

I could also imagine the cops turning up and shooting a teacher, mistakenly believing them to be the shooter.

It could get very messy with 20 or 30 armed individuals running around in civi clothing.

The whole situation just doesn't bear thinking about really.

I don't know how many would want to carry a gun even if they own one at home and are proficient in its use; but It’s the deterrent aspect of it that counts.
From what I’ve read there are ‘gun free’ zones in various places, and I’m assuming schools are amongst them, like churches.
Most shootings take place in locations where the shooter knows they will face little if any opposition; they may be deranged and cowardly, but they’re not stupid.
It’s the same the world over; criminals ( whether armed or not ) target those who can least defend themselves.

You're probably right scully. It's not something that I'd thought about too deeply , until the other day to be honest.

I know several school teachers very well , and I know that just the thought of handling a firearm would fill them with dread , never mind having to use one against a child.

School security guards , that carry firearms,  would seem a much better option.
