If I was served those chips at a fish and chip shop I would ask for a rethink.

They look as if they have been fried for far too long or in the case of the chip shop, maybe they were left over from a previous session and fried again.

they were very nice............i did cook them on 170deg's....will turn it down to 160deg's and see ............

That's how home cooked chips are supposed to look . Brown equals flavour . Undercooked chips are just warm greasy potato.

No, overcooked chips are awful, I agree undercooked chips are awful too, but correctly cooked chips are a joy to behold.

The chips are just the right side of brown but would have preffered a runny yolk to dip them in. Reminds me of the home cooked meals of my childhood. Everything from the frying pan and the fryer.

All those processed seed oils and greasy food may have taken years from my life but the food was lovely I certainly enjoyed it at the time.😋

Who wants to live into their 90's anyway? It can't be much fun beyond 75, sat in a chair all day ****ting ones self involuntarily..

Anything from 6/3 to 5/8 on the above chart posted by Tightchoke will be fine..

the reason they are a darker brown ...is because of the higher sugar contentof the pots i have which are "yellow queen"......i will try the ordinary pots in the co-op next time and report back

this post has the legs to run

I am the wrong side of 75 and would often like the chance of sitting in a chair for long periods , at the moment I just haven't got the time , I average walking at least five miles a day and for many days I exceed that , we were shooting game all day last Saturday and with only three more to go I hope to end another season without missing a single day ,age is only a number and every ones number will be up day but I hope mine is well down the list , in the mean time I aim to get out as much of the day I can , one thing you cannot stop is time .   MM

have you ever had eggs done in deep fryer.......they are eggs poached in hot oil :hmm:

I would certainly eat it, but I am not a lover of frying things in oil so it would only be a one off , I am sure you will master your new addition to the kitchen and drop on the right potato for both looks and taste, not bad for the first attempt and like the song go , Things will only get better :drinks:

It (the food) looks nice other than the eggs - which I don't 'do', however I do have questions about the fryer as I had a similar one once.  Let me explain a bit.

I had a Magimix branded deep fat fryer that was similar to what you have shown;

Good points

  • It cooked very nice food
  • It was (fairly) easy to clean
  • Nothing went wrong
  • It heated quickly

Bad points

  • It held a LOT of oil/fat (I used oil, but can't remember what type now)
  • The oil either needed draining and storing in bottles once cold, or replacing often (it seemed to go off quickly if not).  I only deep fry around once a month.
  • It was really messy pouring the oil out
  • The scraps collected at the bottom

What sort of fat/oil do you use?

I now have a deep fry pan that goes in my (induction) cooker.  I used to use UK grown rapeseed oil, but the last batch I bought left everything with a 'cabbagey' flavour.  Previous batches (same brand)  had not had this.  I think I will go back to corn oil.  What oil/fat do you use?

i use rapeseed.............

the machine is soo easy to clean and filter the oil.....if i dont use the fryer for a few days i heat it up for 10 mins......the element and controller are joined and it just simply lifts off....then you lift the stainless bowl out...filter it ...return the oil and lower the element in...jobs a gooden............i use a french coffee press to clean the oil.....and i will cook in it about 7 to 9 times depending what ive been cooking in it
