know things are hard at the moment bruno but I very much doubt I would do nearly a 60 mile return trip to get 19p , I wouldn't had done it for the £6 odd neither

The joys of old folk out for a drive 🤣🤣 I re read your original post and it certainly wasn't clear that you'd been charged full price not the 19p, now the important thing is what did you buy? Because that's a cracking bargain.

And weren't you taught to check your change or receipt before you left the store 😉

As for kids doing basic Math, I'd guess my 10 & 13 are doing stuff most can't do, the primary school has them doing multiplication on an app which times you and rates you against class mates, I already can't help my 13 year old because the Algebra is beyond me these days.

My mrs is a local councillor and was asked to be a school governor , she said the level of 10 yr olds is what would be expected of 3 yr some can’t dress themselves and some can’t get changed for PE without help , this lays mainly with poor parenting ,and not teaching but this eats into school time and what can be taught and I do have done sympathy with the teachers here

But when my 12 year comes home and says she had to correct the English spelling questions should be asked

Going back a few years, when the £50 note was first issued, I was buying some things in a small supermarket where the girl at the checkout was distracted by something. My stuff came to about £8. Gave her a £20 note and got back change out of £50 😆 She even gave me back my original £20 note 🤣 Thank you very much 🫡

On a similar tack, we were on a camp site in the south of France many years ago when travellers cheques were the way to go regards money abroad. I went to the on-site office to change up a £50 travellers cheque and was given the equivalent of £500 pounds in Francs. I thought at the time that if they cannot get their own currency right, who am I to argue. However, my wife who was a born worrier decided that I should be honest and go back to the office which I agreed to do the next day. However, it didn`t take them too long to realise their mistake and they were knocking on our caravan door within the hour. Ah well, could have been a nice little earner.

Sorry to marsh man to derail his thread somewhat.

Just think outside the box and use your free bus pass mm?

I pay by card and check the receipt when I got home , I bought a load of stuff and most of it was reduced , I normally only buy the stuff if it on offer or reduced , my bill came to about £19.00 and if I had paid the full price it should had been nearer to a £100 so it didn't seem dear to me , but on checking the receipt I noticed they had charged me full price and as I go in there fairly often I knew they would refund me with no prob;ems , I didn't even have to take the empty package , the item was a toasted cheese and onion  sandwich , the ones you toast under the grill . These below were a couple of yesterdays bargains and yes my receipt is correct

Funny you should mention that , when my wife was here we used to go one day a week for the whole day on the buses , and I wouldn't be lying to you if I told you we have been on as many as a dozen different buses in a day , the Waitrose I went to yesterday is a bit off the beaten track with very few buses passing it on a Sunday , if you missed the only bus on a Sunday then you would be lumbered as there wouldn't be another one .

We often went to the Waitrose near Norwich as they were 30 minutes from one to another so it wasn't much of a problem , the longest bus trip I went on in a day was from Yarmouth to Spalding in Lincolnshire , a return trip of around 180 miles . MM

Could be a new PW challenge?

The furthest bus travel in a day?

By the way black pudding sarnies will put more lead in the pencil than prawns. I'm thinking of recommending them to tt as a Tamworth aphrodisiac?

We have got a local bloke who made a bucket list when he reached 90 , one of them was to tour the country while just using his bus pass , this he done and travelled a few hundred miles so I am well off the leader board

No , We didn't go into Spalding we went to the Springfield's outlet centre , it took four hours just to get there but overall it was a nice and cheap day out , save me driving and you can see around the countryside sitting on top of a double decker far better than you can in a car .    MM

I wouldn’t travel on a bus if you paid me.

That is your choice L B , if you are getting on a bit and can still drive and can afford to run a car then there is no need for you to go on a bus and travel free , but for a lot of elderly folk the bus is a lifeline to them , our buses run a fairly regular service backwards and forward to town and then if you want to go to the city then you get buses go every 15 minutes or so , from Yarmouth there is only one stop before you get to the bus station in Norwich , the bus station is only a matter of yards away from the main shopping centre , no car parking fees and the modern day buses are warm and comfortable so what is there not to like about the buses and better still you can travel for free , a win win if you ask me .  MM

Buses are the most obnoxious form of transport known to man, and as a motorist they are a nuisance on the road, stopping about every 400 yards in urban areas. You say yourself that it took you 4 hours to get to Spalding. Plus, they are full of the public and all their diseases. I do not want to travel with a bunch of strangers. As a kid I was sick virtually every time I went on a bus. Dunno why? I have never even considered obtaining a bus pass. Whatever it costs not to travel on a bus is worth every penny to me.

Motion sickness. The inner ear playing up and upsetting your balance. I suffered as a kid in every form of motorised transport and still get motion sickness on boats at sea.

I only ever had it on buses and in the rear seats of a car.

I didn't think four hours was excessive when time is your own , in my motor it would had took me about two and a half hours , different if I had a hospital appointment and was pushed for time , you can say it's an unhealthy place to go to sit in your doctors waiting room but what choice have you got if you felt ill and wanted to see a doctor ? , there might come a day where you end up by yourself and can no longer drive and public transport is all you have on offer so you either take it or leave it , I know what I would sooner do .    MM
