wisecobandit
Always tend to use 28g as a rule unless i run out and have to buy some from the shooting grounds.

Peter De La Mare
28gr 7.5s or 7s for distance stuff. 28gr or 24gr steel 7.5s or 28gr 9s for skeet and most of the straw bale shoots.
sodit
21gram 7.5 hit just as many birds as with 28gram but no recoil and they work in my AL391!
ph5172
28g - couldnt tell you why. But i may be tempted to use 24 or 21 g if they dont cause as much of a bang because of my usual sore head on sunday AM!!!!!!!!!!!

Newsportshooter
28's like everyone else because they're cheap. I have found some similar priced 21's (£30 per 250) - I bought them becuase I was taking a female friend of the misus' for a shoot but have to say found them brill on the clays and felt recoil is noticably less... But i may be tempted to use 24 or 21 g if they dont cause as much of a bang because of my usual sore head on sunday AM!!!!!!!!!!! Think your body is trying to tell you something there bud. I will advise you to listen to it or you will end up with probs. Its no use shuting the door after the horse has bolted or being hard and shrugging it off. clayman
The restriction on max loads of 24g or 28g only applies to registered shoots under either ISSF or CPSA rules. Outside these competition rules there is no size limit to what you might choose to use other than any conditions of entry the ground owner might apply. In practice, most require you to use 28g no 6 max, and in some cases no 8 max for safety distance reasons ( fallout on a no 6 is about 25 m further than 8s and up, so if a ground has only 250m of safety distance they can still run CPSA reg shoots with an agreed restriction to 8s and up in use only). In common with many other coaches who use 24g for all their training, I found a number of years ago that lighter loads gave higher scores. Less shoulder and brain impact from recoil simply meant less fatigue and more ability to put the lead you have in the right place. Remember, that the pattern size is determined by choke, and a 28g does not throw a bigger pattern than a 24g, only a higher pellet density. 24g no 7 Excel from Express had no problems on 3/4 choke with the long targets on the EJ Churchill grouse butts, and any misses were the pr*tt on the trigger, not the cartridge or lead! People who rely on technique are always likely to achieve better scores than those who believe the best way to score highly is to spray as much lead as possible from the fastest cartridge they can buy. mirokujames
tried eley superbs at the weekend, and they are superb (no pun). i really do rate them, they react like a 24g with a bit more recoil.
Miroku Mike
Gamebore white Gold 28g 7.5 sometimes 8s for skeet. Scarpa
I am now a convert to 21g carts. Was hitting some fast going aways at 45 yds on the weekend with them. It's the patterns that count... and with these light loads I can fire a second shot with minimal delay.
perfect
28g i mostly use 28g and 32g for most of my shooting so im used to the same carts.
Cranfield
I have been shooting 24 gm for quite some time and am impressed with the reduced recoil and the distance that I am breaking Sporting clays.
stevethevanman
with a 28g No.8 shell you already have like 700 pellets so why snap your shoulder off with the same size shot loaded in 32g on a big shoot day or say a large 100 shot day at the clays Steve
