Just starts when l start shooting then goes on way home? Tommo
Spaniel
Do you wear Ear Plugs/Headphones ?
Zapp
I'd get that checked out if I were you. ZB
new to the flock
Have your gun fit checked. I know if I use a high comb gun or one slightly too long in the stock I end up getting a bruiser of a headache. NTTF
CZ550Kevlar
I get exactly the same thing but only when shooting i have found it to be 1 of 3 things, lack of fluids, lack of food, wearing ear defenders.
Imperfection
If its not the sound of gunshot-then i suggest you get your eye sight checked.I used to get chronic headaches and wasnt until i got my eyes tested found out i was shortsighted so was prescribed glasses which did the trick.Oddly though, after 8 years of wearing glasses-my eyesight suddenly cured itself and i once again have 20/20 vision. Gully
Maybe get your eyes tested. I was getting headaches and blurred vision after shooting, especially when it was a lot of shots in a short amount of time like skeet. I thought he recoil was detatching my retina or something. I got my eyes tested and ended up having to wear specs for work at computer etc. I also find they reduce eyestrain on long drives watching TV. I don't really need them to see clearly but I don't get the headaches any more.
Kevitree
I get exactly the same thing but only when shooting i have found it to be 1 of 3 things, lack of fluids, lack of food, wearing ear defenders. As above, get your eyesight checked as this is low cost and reccommended every 2 years. but driving during the week will also dehydrate you... Check http://www.bbc.co.uk/health/healthy_living...thy_water.shtml A with all head aches follow best advice, try the NHS direct http://www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk/help/bodykey/q...2bOeKItah40Q%3d As for ear defenders...hmmm always wear something as an acoustic specialist once put it cheese in your ears if you have too. I dont wear ear defenders because they cause me balance problems, I had a hearing aid specialist make me some in ear defenders that work (not cheap) Regards Edited April 3, 2009 by Kevitree
mossy835
iv been shooting 45 years, never had that at all.
flytie
Could be that the head space on your gun is too large, that will give you recoil induced headaches. I hope you find a cure, good luck! ft
reddan
Hi I get the same thing every now and then I just put it down to dehydration. It is suprising how much fluids you should drink on a daily basis and in the heat of shooting often I forget to drink enough. Dan
Gonna Shoot a Wabbit
if the problem is your gunfit may also be worth considering a soft shooting gas operated semi auto
Harnser
I was suffering the same thing . Massive headaches when shooting . Bearable when out stalking ,but unbearable pigeon shooting . I know what my problem was ,as it is a reacurring neck injury . Changed to a urika 2 auto and now have no problems what so ever . Bought the sporting model with the built recoil reducing system . With out a doubt the smoothest gun i have ever shot . Harnser .

Just starts when l start shooting then goes on way home? Tommo I have a doctor friend who gets awful headaches when he shoots over unders and side by sides. However, no problems with an auto. May wanna try a lighter shell and a good recoil reducer before buying a new gun.

jerico
I used to get it so I started shooting from the hip, I'm now banned from every clay ground in the country but my head doesn't hurt anymore! Being serious...... I got it when I first started using a shotgun, I think it was the smell of the carts bringing on migrains but I suppose my body got used to it after a few sessions. Like others have said, keep yourself hydrated and wear some sun glasses
harpoonlouis
Think about you posture when you are shooting especially from a hide. try and avoid hunching up on a low seat or bucket, get a high enough net to sit upright., try and drop your shoulders even when holding your gun for long periods, get a gun rest. If you are scanning the sky for a couple of hours you may be straining the muscles in the back of your neck and these extend right up on to the backof your skull which can be a cause of headaches. If you get this type of head ache recommend a couple of wheaty bags in the microwave for 4-5 minutes then put one on the back of your neck and the other over your eyes and forehead for 10-15 minutes. Always start with a pint or two of water, if it isn't that you will only trouble yourself with an extra trip to the nearest hedge! Staring at the sky will also increase the amount of light entering your eyes even on overcast days. If you get some photo sensitive glasses you will be amazed how dark they go once you stare upwards rather than down or horizontal. Never put up with unexplained repeated headaches, get yourself checked out if they persist.

bruno22rf
the smell of some cartridges gives me a headache-winchester are the worst-otherwise get your blood pressure checked by your doc and mention the headaches to him. It could be a lot of things but hopefully and most likely something minor-good luck.
markb
I know it's a bit off topic sort of but even Roger Daltrey sings with some band or other has said that if he knew then (the 60's) what he knows now he would have worn ear plugs, ( no he wouldn't ) thats just my attempt at a joke sorry) basicly wear ear plugs saves a whole lot of grief later on
