Mr Potter
Clays - bit of a tart really currently Eley Superb or Blues or Olympics, can't tell any difference but the idiot in my head keeps whispering "if it's dearer it MUST be better". Eley VIP Sporting or Hull Sovereign for those 50+ yarders at FITASC. Kent Velocity if it's a fibre wad shoot. 20b Eley VIP 28g fibre for game Other than the 20b I'm only just starting on Eley carts, I've chopped and changed all my shooting life, probably the longest spell was 3 to 4 years on Express World Cup but they got just too expensive. Truth be told I've never fired a cartridge that performed worse than me - If the clay doesn't break or the bird doesn't fold and fall it's my fault, not the gun and certainly not the cartridge. I'm like 99% though and still keep trying something different 'just in case' Mr Potter

Zapp
Dear All, I am interested to learn with brand of cartridge you prefer, and what shot size? I am toying with the idea of doing an article in BASC's trade newsletter in the July issue on cartridges that people use in the Sumer time i.e. mainly for clays, pigeons and rabbits. Also – what are your main buying criteria – is it just price, or is brand loyalty, or recommendation more important? And here is a bit of an incentive, if more than 10 different members post replies (giving me the info) I will stump up 250 cartridges and pull names out of a hat- for one of you to win the lot! David Ok, I am going to give a slightly awkward reply. Nowadays I only use the club carts from my local clayground for everything (8's for clay, 6's for game), or Hull Comp X's. The reason for this is that the club carts are always in 65mm cases and are therefore compatible with my old english guns. I used the following combo's: Clay: 21g Hull Comp X 7.5 or 28g own brand fibre wad 8's. Game: Hull Special Game 30g Fibre 6's (club branded). However, in an attempt to answer your question properly, I will imagine I was only buying for my Beretta and therefore anything will do. I have to admit that I tend to go with price quite a bit. With a few exceptions I dont think there are many "bad" carts around. As such, were cart length not an issue, I would probably go with: Clay: 28g RC 8's Game: Rio Classic Game fibre 30g 6's. Confused? Me too ZB
Yellow Bear
Clays only at the moment 21g 7.5 or 8 gamebore fibres - good price and seem to hit hard enough even on longish birds and no, or very little confetti. Tried the lyvale 21g but found the wad left that much confetti in the air it could take your eye off the report bird and you could not always see a hit if just a bit chippy. turk101
Hi For me ELEY HB 6.5 32g all day long for the pigeons/crows and rabbits. general rough shooting would be clever uk game. I'm definately brand loyal, I love the ELEY BRAND but stick to the HB because of the price, very competively priced. Would also use the Clever uk game more often but the price is very steep now! overall though it's what you and your gun are happy with! casts_by_fly
I pick based on price. I have no brand loyalty for shotgun cartridges. Based on price I'll pick up a flat at a time of 28-32 gr 6-7.5 and shoot them for everything. Thanks Rick
paulos
For clays it is - Hull Pro Ones - 7.5/8/9 depending on the discipline I'm shooting. I have tried quite a few of the mid-high range cartridges and find that these hit hard, pattern well and are fairly soft on the shoulder. For live quarry - no preference as I tend to use whatever is available. I bought 250 express supreme game 30g no. 6 which seem to work well
henry d
Gamebore clear pigeon/fibre/30g/6`s for most situations with pigeon rabbit and medium game birds cheap and good IMHO. Express 50g(or is it 52/53) No1 for fox and 3`s for high inland geese, yes I`m in Scotland. Gamebore mammoth 42g/plas/3`s for decoyed geese again at long range. Express 32g/plas/3 or 4`s for close geese decoyed 4`s good for hares. Kent tungsten matrix 36g/plas/4`s for below HWMOST ducks. Eley bismuth 42g/plas/3`s for below HWMOST geese. H & H no.8`s fibre for walked up snipe, because I had been given them by a `keeper. Don`t shoot clay( `cos I`m kack at it).
anser2
I do not shoot clays as it ruins my live game shooting for months afterwards. For summer pigeons I use 6s or 6.5s usualy Rio 28gr target load , Rio 30 gr classic game or Eley HB , but price is important. I shoot about 5-6,000 during the year and about 2-400 in late summer For early season wildfowling price is no object and mainly use Hevi shot 4s or 3s for geese or gamebore mamonths 3s in steel for duck. I use about 100 of the former and about 500 of the latter during the season.
GW80
i don't have a favoutite brand of cartridge, on the odd ocassion i shoot clays i usaully just buy a couple of box's at the ground, the last time i shoot skeet i was using Dan Arms 9's and GB 7.5's for DTL both were lead plastic wad. For Pigeons and rough shooting last season i went through 3 cases of GB no6's 32G, i also used these for duck on my flight ponds. When all said it would probably come down to price what cartridge i would buy!

Teach tons of newbies and use the 21g steel by Lyvale, no sore shoulders and lots of brokem clays, ace. Pigeons, 30g of 5 or 6 in fibre based on price. MC
I use Express Pro comp in 8's or 9's for clays, Game and pigeon I use Express Pigeon special or Supreme game 30gr in 6's and for wildfowl I use Remington Nitro steel in bb's or 2's or for shooting on my flight ponds I use Express Supreme steel. Apart form the Remingtons I am very brand loyal and always seem to find that nothing else works properly. It is all in the head but I find Express work so Express it is.
