poontang Posted April 18, 2009 Report Share Posted April 18, 2009 In light of the thread on here concerning the G20 demonstrations, and some of the comments expressed in it, it may be worth remembering that the vast majority of police officers in this country are decent men and women doing an increasingly difficult job. PC Gary Toms was a 37 year old officer attached to CO19 firearms section of the Metropolitan police. Last Saturday morning he recieved serious injuries whilst trying to apprehend three criminals who had been involved in an aggravated burglary. PC Toms' life support machine was switched off last night. Whilst the G20 incidents will, no doubt, rumble on for some time i think it's worth remembering the fine line police officers have to tread on a day to day basis keeping the public safe. Without actually being in their position at the time, how can we judge them? The guys that shot that chap on the tube are a good example. People jump on them for killing an innocent man, but acting on the information they had they did the right thing. It may have been an innocent guy they shot, but what if they'd have questioned their information and left him, then he'd detonated a bomb on the train? They'd have been wrong then too. If this chap had gone in a little more heavy handed he may still be here, but he was obviously too friendly about it on the day. It shows that it's not only the innocent public that can lose their lives after a bad decision. Sometimes mistakes are made. When life is involved it is a real downer, but it still happens. Nobody is perfect. Ignore him because he is getting his kicks from what is happening on here now. At least we now know to ignore whatever he says.
