  1. They were indeed .....in the 1880's and were out of use by 1945. If you think it's wise to shoot .22lr upwards then be my guest, but in a modern world where much of the countryside has been built on it cannot be too often that you can be sure no one is within range of the diminutive .22 as it falls from the sky.
  2. I hope not fruity - firing a .22rf up into trees is asking for trouble.
  3. Make a shim out of a 12g case -cut a tube about the width of the mount then cut it in half-pop it under the scope and jobs done.
  4. Mate uses a HW60 and I use a CZ 452 - his looks nicer.....bout it really......OH-and his cost over twice what mine did
  5. Jesus wept - if Nige is a liability and a Liar then what in God's name is Cameron?
  6. Whoops - sold in a couple of hours to a local chap.
  7. If you stand in the gateway for long enough they will generally come over and give you the once over - after a while they will wonder off and lose interest in you - once they have done this you should be fine, just keep away from them as much as possible - walk around the field if you can near to the hedgerow or fence. If you do get "cornered" so to speak I have always found that running straight at them and shouting does the trick but make sure they have plenty of room to "escape" - failing this a single shot into the air can buy you time.
  8. To restore or not to restore, gentlemen.....that is the question.....do I reblue her and have the stock refinished or leave as she is?
  9. I have a nice set of Damascus barrels to be done in the near future-daft question time.....if the colour difference and hence the crispness of the pattern is the result of rusting then cleaning the metals and the different effects of the "corrosion" - does putting oil on the end result not start to remove some of the colouration?
  10. Next time you visit your Gunshop can you just mention to him that I have had 6 AA rifles and never managed to bend the barrels - like figgy said they are Walther items so the quality is pretty much up there - maybe he just talks bullocks. BTW if you bought the swivels from him then HE is responsible if they break and the matter has nothing to do with the manufacturer - whether he is responsible for damage resulting from the swivels breaking is another matter but I would guess that he is.
  11. Heard Cameron on the Box the other night saying that the rest of the EU were likely to agree with all his demands for the UK because they are desperate for us to stay in........not surprising really when you see how much cash we throw at the beggars.
  12. Got one here - the buyer did not buy the optional rear sight so that's a pain but most were sold without and were used with a scope anyway - mine has a moderator adaptor fitted but it has early signs of rust on it (the adaptor-not the gun)and a Mod fitted. Just been serviced and is in 9/10 condition - few small marks on the stock but then she's a few years old. These were only made for 1 year so I know they are hard to find in good condition - can pm you pics if you like (need your email )-£300 buys it + postage.
  13. He will not be working for them for long at £200 for a set of Damascus barrels - I would think that the energy costs alone would come close to that.
  14. £200 to make a set of Damascus barrels? - I would add another zero on the end of that
  15. deershooter-may I ask how you came to lose both legs? - was it a circulation problem caused by long term Diabetes-no obligation whatsoever to answer of course and I understand if you ignore my question.
  16. Funny you should suggest such a thing markm-I did in fact approach the board of governors about the schools spending on seemingly stupid purchases - included in the meeting was the subject of the Head Teachers Iphone and Ipad that nobody had any contact details of yet the school footed the bill - and the appearance of "inspirational" notice boards that were dotted around the school and that I could not find one child who said that they had read them (primary school by the way)-just a couple of examples of the many that I brought up. Guess what the upshot of the meeting was - the official line of any such questions put to the school, directly or via the Governors..... "We have no legal obligation to answer any of your questions" - Good Eh??? . I freely admit that there are some superb Teachers out there and my youngest Daughter owes her 3 GCSE passes at the age of 14 to one such man - but there are many who should never be in charge of a room full of Children and you can spot them a mile off.
  17. I'm with Hamster-a used quality gun will outlast you and lose little money if looked after. 425 is a nice gun as are many Beretta's but a 101 in good condition would be my choice as I think the value will rise. Shop around and try as many guns as you can.
  18. Are they not on your licence?-if not then a call to DVLA should work.
  19. It was "Teacher Training Day" so I'm guessing that the Teachers were, er, training? All teachers went on the "relaxation" course that was held at, and mainly consisted of, Yoga - none of this was included in any class back at school to the very best of my knowledge. The Theatre trip was to Stratford upon Avon where the day consisted of - acting techniques in the morning (the teachers had to wear tracksuits/loose clothing and decide whether to be Worms or Caterpillars before wriggling around on the floor at one point during the lesson)- in the afternoon they were given a Tour of the area and a late lunch near the Theatre before returning to the Theatre to watch the evenings play-many of them (in fact every single Male teacher) stayed in the pub where lunch had been provided and got Rat Assed before returning to the Coach in the evening. You don't need to take my word for it markm because I am obviously a complete liar - but I am happy to pm you the site Managers private number so that you can confirm everything that I have said with him.
  20. Way I have always done it ( too many times ) is - you agree a price for the gun including the sellers RFD fee - the sellers RFD then posts the gun to your nearest/designated RFD who then transfers the details onto your licence - your RFD usually charges for this service - there has never been a need to see the sellers licence.
  21. I was working as a Caretaker at the school at the time markm - was in the Mini Bus that took some of them to the yoga school in Oxford.....so your point is?
  22. Franchi - but I would not buy any of them by choice.
  23. Shame you wont post it - I have a really nice Damascus barreled 16 that the case would make a nice home for
