  1. I had the use of one as a lad. It was perfect for blatting rats around animal sheds/barns etc. Range was about 10 yards. Main advantage over the air rifle was that you could shoot a moving target/shoot the rats through wire. Great fun. OK it is very limited in its application, but for the above, it was spot on. And yes the ammo is costly.
  2. I know what you mean, but I haven't quite brought myself to off any of the black ones yet. I had a black rabbit pet as a boy, and he was the most entertaining and friendly rabbit you could ever wish to meet. Something for me to overcome, with the help of a mil-dot crosshair !
  3. Where I shoot there are a lot of white rabbits and black rabbits. I've heard rumours about Min Ag putting whiteys on the ground for some reason or other. The white ones stand out like sore thumbs. I bopped a very grey one recently, which was living on a railway embankment. It was almost as though it had become sooty from the train fumes. I had better get on and shoot some because the farmer can see them so easily. Does anyone else have a large number of these ?

Screwfix ? www.screwfix.com You'll find loads of lovely stuff on there as well. Get your order up over £45 and delivery is free. Usually next day too.
  5. A clay shoot near me uses speaker magnets screwed to sticks to do this.
  6. Lurch you are 100% right. And that is exactly what I hope does not happen to the rest of the fora (if that is the right plural for forum).
  7. Another vote for the CZ style. I love mine. It is superb. Especially with the brookes trigger kit (which is a cinch to fit). Leaves change for a bipod (which can be expensive) and moderator, sling and scope etc. Not to forget the ammo as well. And a bag. And a cleaning kit/pull through, and a decent cammo overjacket, and a gamebag for all those bunnies, and a nice new knife to paunch them with, etc etc ! B)

    help

Some pongy fabric conditioner on a boil wash perhaps ?
  9. Having started out on the Cybershooters forum, moved on to the GT forum, joined this one and experienced the Airgun BBS, I reckon that we should all pray that we don't get the same sort of posting by a few members that has harmed the first two so much. There is nothing more boring.
  10. As others have said, sad news indeed. I will miss Ern's posts and thoughts are with his family.
  11. Sorry I don't know what would be comparable with your gun. Suggest you ask on Airgun BBS...
  12. http://www.funsupply.com/airguns/number-of-fills-v8.xls This is a useful fill calculator which should help !
  13. Yes, Nikwax is the stuff. Put it on with your fingers (the warmth helps the wax get into the leather) leave the boots in a warm place overnight and gently remove the excess wax with kitchen roll in the morning.. restores old shoes and belts and everything !
  14. I was on a shoot where the keeper and his wife had a very bad day on linseed. They drove the land rover over the field (the crop had been taken off) and some caught on the exhaust or something and caught fire. The landy was burnt out.
  15. I once printed a colour map of the fields I wanted to shoot on, typed a letter and sent it to the farmer. I rang him 3 days later and he said that had he not already let the pigeon shooting (to some *** who shoots it twice a year only !) he would have let me shoot. I did already have permission on some adjoining land which helped.
  16. That's a lovely bit of wood !

  18. This does make life hard for retailers but as Deako says if it is made plain that goods may differ from those shown in certain respects that offers some protection. The main thing is that it is not fundamentally different, what is fundamental depends on the individual item and the use to which it is put.
  19. Under the distance selling regulations you have the right to reject and also, under normal consumer legislation where goods are sold by description and they do not, upon arrival, correspond with the description, you are entitled to reject them and claim a refund as well. I suggest you do a google search on "sale of goods description" for chapter and verse on this. If there is some sort of disclaimer as to the pictures on the website my advice might be different...
  20. Nice tale of the buzzard ..similarly I shot a pigeon which landed in a field behind my hide, I could not see it from where I was sitting. After 20 minutes I turned around and saw a buzzard on the ground pulling feathers off the breast of my bird. I would have loved to watch it eat a leisurely meal, but it spotted me and took off, without the bird.
  21. Jon, your Baikal is very nice....so we must think of something else ! I have a BSA Cadet air rifle which you are welcome to borrow anytime if you want to use that to get him more used to the long gun. It is not the quietest of air rifles. James
  22. I had 250 SMI "mini" in 7s, which were very good and I would buy them again.
  23. If this is your budget then a s/h BRNO 2E or CZ 452 will do you fine. Yes the trigger is poor but when you have £12.50 kicking about you can get it done, in the meantime you will still hit what you aim at if you aim straight and can pull the 4.5lb trigger. I was able to buy a new style model (nickel/synth). I have read good reviews of the Magtech semi though ?
