  1. You big softie! Does the Bailkal have "Made in USSR" stamped on it? I have a few Baikal cartridges with a USSR headstamp! I'll give you some next time I see you so can enjoy the full Soviet experience!
  2. I read this too somewhere. I would rather take cover. An ounce of shot isn't going to detonate a grenade any faster, and if it did then you might be showered with an air burst. It might deflect the grenade away from you, but where to?
  3. Hi, I'll take it pending meeting up as discussed. Thanks
  4. Agree 100%. As long as they don't do anything silly then more power to them.
  5. I've had mine since 1992 and it's been extremely reliable. It's my only choice for simulated game days where it might eat 3-400 shells. A friend was so impressed be has since bought a trio with 28, 30 and 32" barrels in grade 5 or 6!
  6. I have the Impact M3 in .25. Currently using FX hybrids at 48 ft lbs. I have a slug liner too. Not used it that much yet but its a lovely thing!
  7. How about a Marlin or even a Henry ? Both section 1.
  8. Oh dear. You bought a pair if guns and the triggers have different mechanisms? This does seem extraordinary.
  9. Have you got anything to evidence that? I just can't see it being any advantage, in fact you'd be more likely to miss.
  10. I have always thought the stories of purposeful slam firing were nonsense. The soldier would just end up missing a lot and no army would have trained that in!
  11. Its called "simunition". The modern 9mm stuff is a metal case with a plastic piston, but it works the same. This captive piston allows the recoil operated pistol to function. Gas operated weapons like the rifle don't need this, so they just have a low powered charge and a lightweight bolt carrier.
  12. Enjoy it. If you get really into it you can experiment with loading magtec .410 full length brass shells!
  13. Thanks very much! I have three of the guns on that index.. I'm sure the rest would be very hard to find!
  14. I have one with a fixed choke and it's a lot of fun. If you have the opportunity to buy one with fixed or multi chokes I would take it as they are fairly rare. If you're putting one on your FAC you also have the option of a Marlin 1895 version that has a 22" barrel. The Winchester holds nine shells when unrestricted and is a lovely bit of kit.
  15. Interesting. So are the smoothbore Taurus Judge pistols gone? Can the rifled ones be held instead?
  16. I'm currently using 2" 9 gram .410 shells to kill rats in my chicken pen. They don't like it! Love the .410. I'm going to have a proper go at clays this summer with it too. Also the TSS has made it a very capable long range gun apparently.
  17. You can fit an alarm yourself very cheaply which takes a cheap pay as you go sim card and calls you if triggered. You could set this up on your gunroom door. I had one of these before going for a fully monitored alarm system and the FEO was very happy at the time.
  18. Unless you could have it in 9mm rimfire its a smooth bore "revolver gun" and therefore section 5. I think they were added to Section 5 to stop the perceived threat of the South African "Street sweeper" / Pancor Jackhammer (both evolutionary dead ends). I had a look at a wonderful Belgian black powder 12 bore revolver shotgun years ago. It was built on an upscaled Tranter action.
  19. Thank you Gas Seal, I've only just seen this post ! I went and had a look at it. That one was imported and sold by Watson Brothers. I never knew they had imported them too. It was not as good as the Charles Lancaster ones. The forened was not wood and they had retained the resin used by Spencer. The stock was a later replacement. I have one too. Val Browning designed it to compete directly with the handling characteristics of a double gun. Not a gun I put a lot of clays though but excellent to carry a lot and shoot a little.
  20. I would certainly choose the Benelli over the Mossberg. If you want to hold wooden furniture rather than plastic then that might push you to the Mossberg though.
  21. I had one for a number of years. It was just a curiosity for me as I found the recoil too much to be of practical use (throwing 8 bore loads from a 10 bore) and my 12 bore auto did what I needed to do fowling. If you get the load and recoil right for you then they are certainly the cheapest way to get into an 8 bore though.
  22. I'll know soon if there is a place for next season on my shoot - I will get in touch if there is.
  23. I don't think so - not at the moment anyway
