A few years back I went to look at a job in Hampstead , we did fibrous plaster work , not only the run of the mill stuff but match to existing work in a lot of listed and heritage buildings , on giving the people the quote the women shrieked in horror and pointed out her husband was a bank manager and what I wanted was more per day than her husband earned , I told her best thing was to get her old man retrained in the fibrous job , but remember he won’t be going to work in a suit , he certainly won’t have a company car , he will be up to his arm pits in cold water , he will have to start work long before nine and certainly won’t be knocking off early , on top of which he may have to work away quite often ..but on the plus side we did have a good craic most days ...we never got the job .😂

I did many years ago have to fly with a “ third world “ local air service in Africa ... flying was a very loose description , the words “ just about “ should have been placed before the word flying .. Two trips was my lot , I wasn’t liking the old saying third time lucky ...

I’d feel sick and ashamed to my core if I thought my stupid actions had cost a man his life ..and loosing the ability to walk would be the same if not worse than loosing your life ..that would be an unbelievable burden to carry all your days ..

I have a pair of digital aids that after five years I was looking to upgrade to the newer Bluetooth version , from the ones I tried I just couldn’t see £5000 worth of improvement over the ones I’ve already got , given the ones I already have would then become expensive back up ..With regards to any improvement from the nhs to the Siemens ones I paid for the difference was staggering ..when I first walked out the store (specsavers) into the street I literally stopped in disbelief at what I could hear ..This was five or six years ago and they cost me the very thick end of £3k ... Now the not so good bit ...the first three or four years they are under guarantee , which is just as well because they went back every year , one at a time they where replaced four or five times each due to moisture (sweat) which causes them to switch off .Given I looked after them as per instructions , putting them in a drying box at night and was always conscious of wearing them when it was raining it was bloody annoying when they packed up ..Specsavers sent them for repair , they have to go back to Siemens for this , and they don’t repair them they replace them .This is fine and dandy when they are under warranty but once that ends it’s £168 (each )a go , so far I’ve had four goes of that .When I tried talking to specsavers about extending the warranty as they had both been replaced four times by then , they were having none of it ... Regardless of the above I would be ,and am lost without them , I’m just resigned to the fact I will probably need to spend £336 a year till the lid gets nailed down on the box ..years of shooting shotguns and full bore rifles have taken a heavy toll on my hearing , if I knew then what I know now hearing protection would have been the first thing I put in the truck for the days sport ..

Given the numbers of incidents , running into hundreds , Wealden council were well versed in retrieving and disposal of the carcasses .I had the means to remove all the deer I dispatched and took them home for the council to collect, which saved them having to go looking for them .You wouldn’t believe some of the stories I could tell about “rights “ to the carcasses from affected motorists , and come to that , unaffected ones ..

I have seen them left , with a notice pinned on it ...madness ..luckily I was able to remove the carcass and have it picked up next day by the local council for incineration ..

Sussex police in conjunction with the local council run a very successful deer warden scheme ,it’s been runner for several years now where there is nearly always a member on call to dispatch any rta injured animal .Most of us served within a certain radius of our homes , mine was ten miles , call outs came at any time of the day or night and very seldom was someone not available to assist even if it meant going out a bit further to help .Many a time the pcso or pc was extremely pleased to see someone turn up that could despatch the injured animal , usually deer ,and around my part of East Sussex their are a lot of deer , accidents at certain times of the year namely the rut and the few weeks after the young are born and they start moving about where particularly busy times .Three in one night was my best , all within two miles and the same young officers were at the scene ..Retired now I attended dozens upon dozens of calls . As for dispatching an animal on the road , my advice would be before shooting it .RING THE POLICE , explain where you are , what is happening , who is present .AND GET A INCIDENT NUMBER from the police control ..do not shoot it on the road if at all possible . This was and still is as far as I know an unpaid , no expenses paid service from people who care and have an interest in deer .. Call out the RSPCA ......😂😂😂.....pitiful .

I think from memory the boots I had were the gtx ones , they were comfortable buts it’s a damning indictment when a boot designed for the rigours of a wet cold British winter get demoted to summer only use , incidentally the same thing happened to the first pair I had after the firm I bought them off never ever collected them , I gave them to a pal of mine who used them as summer walking boots ...Their stalking trousers are top class and provided several years of good service after suffering some really abusive treatment , I actually bought the boots on the back of the the good quality and service of the trousers ..had it been the other way round I wouldn’t have bought anything badged Harkila ..

I found them to be excellent when it came to service and customer care , unfortunately the boots I bought from them leaked after a week or so and even though they replaced them within a few days the boots where never up to the job, worn four or five days a week they were in tatters at a year old ..now if the boots had matched their customer care standards they would have had a customer for life ..

My old man , as much as he wanted to be practical couldn’t bang a nail in a piece of wood without bending the nail , splitting the wood & breaking the hammer , my mother begged him not to do stuff around the house , knowing it would turn out a disaster 😂 ..I earned my living in the building trade , not academic in the least , my daughter on the other had has just been made ceo of her company ( financial analysts ) , my son teaches people to drive just about every bit of kit on wheels or tracks ...Just horses for courses ..

I’m living in Spain at the moment , my friend you haven't begun to see or experience bureaucracy until you have lived a while over here , it is mind boggling ! I couldn’t begin to tell you how bad or mad it is ..every thing and I mean everything revolves around paper and stamps , if your paper isn’t stamped you are going nowhere or doing anything ..!

At the time we were providing a free servis , rabbits were a huge pest and we eat them ..From those early day outings an interest was born that's lasted well over half a century , from fishing to shooting to stalking to dog training ..from keepering to managinging the deer on two estates that has allowed me to get 41 people there first deer ... Poaching...Guilty my Lord , but I've put a bit back ..
