  1. Threw it down last night in the Sevenoaks area, lots of thunder & lightning. Fortunately, the edge of the rain stayed about a mile away from where we are performing, but the third act of Lear (the storm on the heath ) had a real storm in the background. Couldn't have arranged it better if we tried

    tonight

What has that got to do with their ability to play football?
  3. Has to be Battle of Britain for me - I went to the premiere at Leicester square with my dad.
  4. Iirc, you score zero for that pair.
  5. Mixed bag - I've had both excellent and abysmal service. 3-day service normally takes 1 or 2 days. But, they have left stuff under the (open) porch, in the rain, despite there being clear instructions on the parcel to leave with a neighbour if we are out. The last one it's still subject to an ongoing complaint, so will post that when it is resolved. It really depends on the Muppetry (or otherwise) of the local delivery franchisee.
  6. Lovely job with both knife and leather. Well done!
  7. I've tried it in my Baikal, and yes, it works, but haven't done it enough to say whether reliability is affected or not.
  8. Water stones - say a 320 for shaping the bevel, 800 or 1200 to get a fine feather edge, then a big flat strop with blue polishing compound to finish. Try Axminster.co.uk for the stones and polish, and make the strop yourself by gluing a strip of leather 2" x 18" or so onto a length of wood the same size, rough side out.
  9. Tim Greenwood, in Pembury. Google knows where to find him
  10. Back on topic, we had them call once just after we moved in. Had a half hour discussion about drawing evidence-based conclusions and evolution (dropping in the odd quote from Karl Popper, and the fact that I donate platelets every month), we agreed to differ, and they haven't been back since Job done, and all perfectly polite, so a worthwhile investment in time as far as I can see
  11. You obviously don't own one, or you would know that the best ones are held together with baler twine, not string
  12. None of them - might catch the highlights of the RU premiership later on, but I have other fish to fry today, and there's some drying paint to watch which will drag me away from the FA Cup...
  13. Free is always good Sounds like it may be one of the more kinky stainless grades if it's cutter steel - I'd be interested to know how it holds a fine edge, rather than the shearing edge of a food processing cutter.
  14. "Surgical steel" is a bit of a non-statement, quite common to see on cheaper knives, but doesn't actually mean something. Unfortunately, work-hardening is not the same as heat-treatment, so you may well find out won't sharpen well or hold an edge. If by "high grade stainless" you mean something like 304 or 316, then it definitely won't. I like the effect you have achieved with the hessian acrylic handle material, and the blade shape and grind look good - especially creditable if the steel has work-hardened. Probably a better steel to start with would be O1 or it's equivalent, or one of the water-quenching steels. Old files are an excellent (and cheap) source of the latter). Anneal, grind off the teeth, and away you go.
  15. Blade looks nice, and there's a decent piece of wood there too. Bit more finishing work needed on the woodwork, but a sound effort. From a design perspective, you may find the lanyard loop at the upper edge of the handle gets a bit uncomfortable in use. Finger notches also aren't my thing, but your mileage may vary. I'd give it a month before you start the next one!
  16. Exercise your Google-fu for Russell White knives - he may well be the man you are looking for...
  17. Belt grinder or linisher, take it slow, and as ditchman says, keep it cool. Work out what you are trying to achieve BEFORE you pick up the tool!
