  7. hi fitz if you decide to leave the old carpet, liner and fill up with soil and crusher and then the slab laid on cement you do run the risk of it sinking, even if it is only having foot traffic on it. if water ingress into any of the susurface voids, frost, thawing , heavy rain will all affect the base then the slabs. would be doing a poor job of it. pull out the carpet and liner, then throw in yer rubble and soil to bring up the level and compact. as you are not digging down to a compacted subsurface, you can hire a small compaction plate for about £15 for a day with delivery and pickup, just google tool hire for your area. compact, lay yer crusher surface and compact, then bed your slabs on your sharp cement mix as said and the jobs a gooden. may be others along shortly to give same or better advice, i have laid plenty of slabs over the years. atb 7diaw
  8. hi cosd i highly reccomend rosate 36, i have been using this for years, absolutely deadly to all plants, weeds, grasses. here are pictures of grass i sprayed in my garden 10 days ago as i am extending my patio. i use dilution rate of 30ml per litre and my front block paving was the same as yours this year now totally weed free. i sprayed the back garden and it poured down two hours later and still had this effect. it does not look like it is doing anything then after 10-14 days everything will be totally dead with no comeback. i have used it on grasses, brambles, marestail and nothing has withstood its vengance! here is the link i buy it from on amazon. you need to read the leaflet on application and dilution rates and safety of use near watercourses, ponds etc as highly toxic to aquatic organisms. i use a mask and cover up when spraying from my pack. as said this is what you need. i done driveway which is 70 square metres with 5 litres. dilution 30ml a litre of water. i buy the five litre. https://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_c_1_6?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=rosate+36&sprefix=rosate%2Caps%2C222 atb 7diaw
  9. as per the previous posts, the only thing an owl decoy fools is the buyer, me being one of these. save yer dosh! atb 7diaw
  10. had a call from a farmer friday saying crows hitting some fallow land next to wheat and some letting on the wheat, on arrival walked off well over a 100 of mixed corvids from the fallow field adjacent to the wheat. as you can see in picture, field has been sprayed off and very dry and really no growth on it, on inspection i could not see what they had been feeding on. farmer reports numbers had built up over 2-3 days. dug myself in and over 2 hours had about 20 return. for 19 carts killed 12, could only pick 5 at end of day due to others in standing wheat and from size all appeared to be crows. when i walked them off thought may be possible for a good head returning but this was not the outcome. pulled a couple of the crows open but could not really see what they had been feeding on. very enjoyable few hours. had a run out in the late evening with the pre puffer (air arms s410, 177 pre charged air rifle) went down to horse paddocks as ongoing job managing the bunters on there. last time i went two weeks ago i was confronted buy an angry individual who was said! horrified that someone would be controlling rabbits around the horses. the livery owner had already informed all that they may see me around as i have been going to this place for 3 years. any roads whilst i was being civil and explaining the economic, legal and sporting reasons for pest control to the individual a small mob of other horse owners assembled to join the debate with their pitchforks and torches which was at the start particularly one sided. after me taking 10 minutes to impart reasons and knowledge a couple agreed they could understand some aspects of the need for control, one wholeheartedly agreed and said could she watch. the first carried on her torrent of irrational tosh and basically embarrassed herself in front of the others. she made it difficult for me to get on with the job that eve as made plenty of noise round the paddocks and was generally disruptive. i went and spoke to owner and told him if he wanted the job doing he would need to make it clear that i am not to be disrupted. any way back to friday eve, arrived to find about half dozen people about, snuck onto first paddock, over other side 5 or 6 bunters sat out, crawled under electric fence and commando crawled about 30 yards flat on belly to get within range. first one about 20 yards away. Phutt! goes the pre puffer, straight away onto another sat up, phutt, another, the others ran and one stopped about 30 yards, phutt anther down. carried on to next paddock shot another 2 relatively easy shots and plenty of fence posts to rest on. whilst crossing into another paddock shot a magpie that was sat o a fence post a good 35 yards, the s410 is so accurate and am confident with it. time was getting on to around 22.30 and light starting to draw, shot anther rabbit from a gatepost similar distance to others and decided to collect on way back as i would go and collect the other 5, on returning to collect the last rabbit i could see a horsy lady stood over my dead rabbit staring at it. i walked down and politely shouted have you got my rabbit, she shouts yes! shall i bring it over. what a nice lady after and after an agreeable chat for 20 minutes re pest control and livery talk i made my way back to the car. on driving out manage another 2 in the headlights, both a good 35 yards out and just at the limit of the scopes light abilities and was extremely happy with the result but did have a very good rest from the car window. pics are of the six healthy bunters that i shot before i got the other two. total tally for the day was 12 crows, 1 magpie, 2 woodies, eight rabbits. atb 7diaw
  11. bloomin heck! what a day, just demonstrates your testament to your knowledge, reconnaissance and skills. well done on a cracking write up and keep them coming. atb 7diaw
  12. can be difficult to stalk bunters on golf courses due to lack of cover, especially if you using air rifle and range is limited. i have always had my most productive times on golf courses by lamp on gun, you can get at them as them as they move into the rough. get out with the lamp that will give you a good indicator of how the rabbit population is. atb 7diaw
  13. two fantastic days pc, great informative write up as always. atb 7diaw
  14. nice read P, good to know we are are all capable of it. anyroads, sounds like you had some great sport. atb 7diaw
  15. cyst maybe!, as said best to leave and would not be consuming! looks like it has been a healthy bunter before that.
  16. this! http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-36870874
  17. great write up spaniel and well done on yer first, that was good going and fortunate on your first stalk that a shot presented itself. that said just being out and no shot is all part of the experience and gaining knowledge and skills. atb 7diaw
  18. hi paul as said the expansion and droping of level is normal and i have yet to have a pet bottle explode ( i say yet very carefully!) in the pics you can see how much my bottles have expanded and have had them go beyond this also. some in each batch hardly swell and the bottles just go hard, however dont be fooled as on opening they are usually as fizzy and volatile as the swollen bottles. atb 7diaw
  19. hi rovercoupe if you get any further explosions you may want to buy some PET plastic bottles which are specifically for secondary fermentation and decant into them leaving a good 1.5 inch airspace, these are what i use and recommend in the previous posts. yes i would be gassing every night if you dont want to buy some of the pet bottles. with the extreme hot weather i have found my whole batch has swollen quite significantly over the last few days, more than i have ever had in such a short period before. atb 7diaw
  20. lucky for me i am off til saturday. my wife gets the train home from central liverpool each eve and said yesterday people were nearly fainting on the train due to the heat and sheer volume of bodies, said it felt like a million degrees. we are just not used to extreme fluctuations in temperatures. got beers cooled in the fridge for when she gets home, nice lager and lime.
  21. hi wymberley i also turned over at the exact same time seeing Tim Wanacot huffing and puffing into the call. the deeks looked as if they could have been made in the late forties to fifties and as you say they were certainly well balanced and looked like a quality, handmade item. he said they were priced at around £40 for the pair, would be a wonderful thing to try out something like that. atb 7diaw
  22. i have cz 452 sillhouette no varmint barrel, absolute superb accuracy and consistent, i put remmy subs through mine.has a laminate stock (a plastic fantastic as i have heard others call it) i have put thousands of rounds through it and have no complaints as of many users and walshie and browning say. Elvis if you are not to far from me say 30 mile i will come over with my 452 and you can have a look just to give you and idea. just happy to help you out with no favours.. atb 7diaw
