  1. I have regretted not buying the one I had in my hands in the local gunshop when they were new in about 2002. I have consoled myself as I have since spoke to a few people who have them and they cycle fine - with Winchester and Remington cartridges. They apparently do not like European spec cartridges, especially Express. There is a gunshop in Oxon sells the Winchester but at about £580 per 1000. The people I have conversed with say the will fire once and then you struggle to eject and feed the next cartridge. There is even a review by an English gun shop on Youtube and they end stating the same. I wonder why this is why so many that are advertised for sale state "had little use". I hope you find a cartridge that lets you get full enjoyment out of it.
  2. LEE .308 die set including shellholder £35 including postage to mainland UK Advertised elsewhere
  3. I would classify these as new old sock, having been sat in my garage for 20 years plus and never been used. There is a pair, Hardy Spicer brand, part number RTC3291G £14 for the pair including postage to mainland UK
  4. Yes, depends on your individual police force. Usually, when you apply for your first FAC they will keep your levels low. As time passes you can apply to increase your limits. All ammunition has to be kept in a separate locked cabinet to the firearms. This applies to both rimfire and centre fire. Shotgun cartridges do not have to be locked away, written on your SGC, and whilst there is no limit stated to what you can hold, it is generally regarded that 10,000 would be seen as the maximum. More than that the combined amount of powder and powder in the primers would put you over the limits allowed by HSE without an explosives license. The exception for shotgun cartridges is slugs - being a single slug they are classed as section 1 ammunition, you have to have permission to hold xx amount on your FAC and they must be locked away in a separate cabinet.
  5. I would hardly call Just Cartridges a cartridge discounter - they are generally THE most expensive. I have used Gamebore Velocity for a while now and find them good. Used a box of Hull Comp X the other week and my mates thought they had no shot in!!! Glad it was just one box. Got Hull Superfast to use next. A guy I know who is in the trade stated the Gamebore trade price is now higher than the retail price was 2 years ago!!! Support your local gun shop/clay ground - buy what they have and you will probably pay around £220 per 1000.
  6. 10 bore cartridges usually make good money in sporting gun auctions
  7. I saw a program recently where they had to cut some tin roof sheets - the guy took the chain off a chainsaw, put it on backward and cut through the tin sheets like a hot knife through butter with no sparks!!!
  8. The situation in the USA is now affecting us here. I don't load shotgun shells, just centre fire cartridges, and I deal with a local friendly RFD on behalf of my club members. If they want anything of American origin, they are extremely lucky to get what they want. American bullets - Sierra, Hornady, Berger - largely out of stock. Primers - Federal, CCI - largely out of stock. The American manufacturers cannot supply their home market so are not really bothered about supplying us. One major importer just received 4000 bullets from one manufacturer when they had order 10,000, they have not had a complete order in over two years. This is having a knock on effect on supplies coming from Europe - the Americans are now ordering from European suppliers on a scale previously unseen which means we get less!!! It's all about supply and demand - the US market demands huge amounts of components so companies will do their best to sell to them rather than what miniscule UK will take.
  9. Have you tried Johnson Field Sports in Bishop Auckland??? Or have a run out to Gilsans at Leyburn or Northallerton Shooting and Countrywear
  10. A good friend of mine always used to say "If you are on target, then you are on target. Doesn't matter if you use 8s on pheasants or 4s on clays, if you are on target, the cartridge will do its job!" He used to shoot everything with 7.5s, clays, game, pigeons, etc but I can't remember what brand - but they would not have been top end of the price scale.
  11. Hawke Vantage Red Dot, model number 12104 1x30 Weaver rail Had very little use and is in excellent condition £45 plus postage or collect Advertised elsewhere
  12. Hawke Fast Mount scope, model number 11301. 4x32 mil dot. Very little use. Advertised elsewhere £25 plus postage
  13. Plenty of powder too according to their website. And brass.
  14. Are the Winchesters in boxes??? And is it a box of 25 with 6 missing??
  15. Lovely cabinet but I don't think police allow cabinets with external hinges to be used for ammunition or firearms storage
  16. Bought some lots at auction in September and this was one of the finds of the day. The headstamp states made in the USA and the case itself states loaded in the UK which dates the box to pre 1946 which is when Remingtons UK branch was declared bankrupt. Another collector I know estimates them to be from the period 1936 to 1939. For their age, they are mint!!
  17. I would be interested in a few boxes if you decided to sell some
  18. They would be a fairly recent cartridge Stephen that was made,I think,by Express. The original Dan Arms like your no3 were made in Denmark in the 1980s. I have a Dan Arms shotgun. I believe the company folded when the directors departed with grant money they had received from Danish government!
  19. A dealer I know in Scotland said the latest Gamebore price list showed the trade price per 1000 was now £20 more than the retail price was 2 years ago! I bought 1000 Hull Superfast in June for £201, a few weeks later I was in a different store and they were selling at £229!! He reckoned the price had gone up. Mentioned it to a mate who range our local store - £207 and they had 7,000 left so we bought the lot.
  20. I think the code 39 J 7A denotes they were checked by inspector number 39, the J denotes March, 7 is the 7th day of the month and A could be 1978
  21. Ooooo, love Winchesters!!! Any pics??
  22. Never seen such a large brass Dan Arms - I presume it's a game cartridge??? When I started shooting in the late 80s I used Dan Arms 7.5,8 and 9s but never kept a full box of any of them!!! Can never have too many Winchesters!!! Good luck with the collecting. I know what you mean Farmboy - I have a friend who is an RFD dealing from home and he rang recently and said,"You like signs don't you, wait until you see what I have for you!!"
