  1. When you travel be aware that 5kg is a personal limit - however there is ALSO an overall aircraft limit of 25Kg so if there are several shooters and you turn up at check in as the 6th person with 5Kg's of ammo you may be declined the opportunity to take it with you - to avoid this make sure you PRE-BOOK and get confirmation with your tickets including any change over or onward flights if you fly on from a hub? HTH
  2. Jamie - have you shot this now - what are your thoughts on this rifle/round?
  3. The Wildlife & Countryside act came into force in 1981 and was amended in the 90's Back in those days my SGC was about like a postcard with no photo or record of the guns. I used to have a Remington 1100 this was 5 shot (4+1) and came supplied with a plastic plug to insert into the magazine and restrict the shotgun to 2+1 - this was nothing to do with UK law but was in fact to comply with numerous US State laws on taking wildfowl/game. Various manufacturers provide extension tubes and longer springs for up to 12 rounds ( these extend beyond the barrel) I had a 7+1 extension tube and what I would say is it ruined the balance of the gun and made it very heavy indeed. If anyone has a "shotgun" that has the plastic plug in the magazine then in this country this is a firearm and should be on an FAC, if your holding such a firearm on a SGC, you could find yourself in Big trouble? You should either lodge it with an RFD and get an FAC or have it properly modified and proof house certificated to retain it on a shotgun certificate.
  4. You should be able to do MUCH Better than that. I would suggest the trigger needs work but you should be able to shoot 5p sized groups or smaller at 50m When Zeroing, I regularly go "round the clock" and shoot out the individual numbers on target at 12/3/6 and 9 once a rageddy hole has been shot in the centre. Rifle - well used 10/22 with: VQ 16" Carbon Barrel VQ Target Hammer / Sear RFC - Tips and tricks - improvement to trigger spring bar. Hogue overmoulded stock Optimate 6-24x scope. When I first got my VQ barrel it I struggled to extract all the rounds using cheap American Blazer or similar - the manutacturing tolerances on this cheap ammo is not as good as having Eley/Lapua or similar shot cases got stuck in the tight match chamber. My particular rifle loves SK or RWS Match and I never use any really cheap US manufactured ammo these days.
  5. 1066 in some respects the above copper based CCI ammo reminds me of this: http://www.midwayusa.com/product/2506135961/aguila-sss-sniper-subsonic-ammunition-22-long-rifle-60-grain-lead-round-nose A 60gn lead .22 basically an enlarged bullet over a .22 Short case. It was intended to be "quiet for hunting" as an alternative to using a sound moderator. Americans can get them but the are on what they call "Class 3 Licence" which basically means they have to go through vetting which we would find akin to the FAC process and of course they have to pay a $200 Tax for each moderator on top of the purchase price and local taxes. Ive never seen any in this country or I would have tried it but understand they need a barrel with a tighttwist to be accurate
  6. This non-lead ammo is a response by the US ammunition manufacturers to States like California where there is now a TOTAL ban on the use of lead ammunition for hunting. Whilst it may be sold over here, it is unlikely that it will provide anything that will be beneficial. Lead has been the primary material for use in ammunition projectile manufacture, by natural selection for as long as people have been making ammunition, and it is unlikely that this will ever be bettered in practical terms of for cost and ease of manufacture. If sold here it is only likely to have, "gimmick" value, and it I always likely to be bettered by lead ammunition, particularly when we are talking rimfire ammo.
  7. Yes you do - http://basc.org.uk/cop/woodpigeon/ A Lantra Award Level 2 “Wild Game Meat Hygiene” certificate is required to sell pigeons to an Approved Game Handling Establishment. Contact BASC Sporting Services department 01244 573018 for further details. This is another helpful requirement / law brought to you by the EU

  9. Defender, My FAC was due for renewal and this time round the Police have insisted that I have SEPERATE allocations for both Non Expanding and Expanding so as an example I now have two different line entries for each calibre where I have Expanding and Target Ammo.
  10. There is little point in calling them ahead of any outing, if they get a report from anyone they are duty bound to investigate - after all the person reported by a member of the public could be anyone, not necessarily any person who has phoned in to say they will be out? If you are (as I expect) on a permission legitimately you have no reason to concern yourself? The police have guidance from the Home Office which tells them how to behave towards the public with firearms - I haven't seen anything in that which suggests you should call the police before an outing? If anyone can point such a suggestion out in that, please let me know I'd like to be advised? There is definitely no such requirement in the Firearms Act or its various amendments! This could become just another bureaucratic formality that everyone has to deal with if you encourage it. I recall a thread on this subject on another forum, where someone who had been encouraged to do this had been interrupted on his permission by ground units and a helicopter and found himself staring down the wrong end of an MP5 even though he had called in his outing. He swore he would never bother informing them again? Please don't encourage this un-necessary bureaucracy..
  11. Jason has nailed it for the other range I was looking for with the link he gives to Old Windsor, it came up in my search this morning whilst I was looking for another MOD range which I knew existed, that is Henly Gate which uses the same danger area and I presume is like Stoney Castle (I have not been to or shot on that one)
  12. Following the earlier post on this – I’ve looked up the two MOD ranges that I know of which are really right on the doorstep of Bisley if you guys are based in that area. There are several ranges at “Ash” and the last time I was there they were really nicely looked after. I’ve shot at Stoney Castle Range, as well and this is also another really nice range. As far as I know these are looked after for the MOD and administered by Landmarc Stoney Castle Range, Surrey DescriptionStoney Castle is an MoD 600 m range close to the south of Bisley. It is set in delightful heath and woodlands. It doesn’t matter if you only want to shoot 100/200 you can shoot there at the distances you choose? The Stoney Castle range is the scene for the Army Target Rifle Club's annual "Classic SMLE" competition : another not-to-be-missed occasion for Enfield Rifle enthusiasts. Getting thereTurn right out the Main Gate at Bisley Camp, turn left at Pirbright Barracks up over the canal, then round the traffic triangle to go straight through the narrow railway arch. Straight on over the brow of the hill to the traffic lights at Pirbright Village. Sharp right into School Lane, follow that round for 2km, look out for the range entrance on the left hand side. Maps http://www.streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?x=492805&y=155845&z=0&sv=492805,155845&st=4 As far as I can ascertain the contact for these is the Defence Training Estate Training Area Officer on 01483 798357. Or South East Landmarc Support Services Limited Longmoor Training Camp Liss Hampshire GU33 6EL South East including the Home CountiesOliver James 01420 483492 SouthEastTPI@landmarc.mod.uk More information on Ash here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/aldershot-training-area-ash-ranges I hope this is some help to you – if the contacts aren’t quite right put up a note and I will get them from our own area Landmarc team.
  13. Deckers, Would I be right in thinking that the NRA are allowing the MOD / Civil Nuclear Police to dominate the bookings on Short Siberia and milking it as a cash cow? There are some other really great MOD ranges just a few miles away at the Complex's at Ash and there are a couple of others - I will see what I ca find for you? and re -post here later.
  14. You might find the info you want on the 4 Islands web site / forum
  15. Pheasant Feeder, what an erudite and insightful look at this issue, I've already voted "out" via a postal vote, and had no reservation about that vote, however I think its worth commenting, what a great shame that neither the Leave or Remain campaigns could present their arguments with the same amount of impartiality and logic. Bravo Monsieur, Bravo!
  16. Norfolk is quite well served with the MOD ranges at Thetford. If you want to find a club contact your Police Firearms Licencing team who should be able to put you in touch with a club in your area? You Might scan the links to clubs on the NRA or NSRA websites http://www.nra.org.uk/common/asp/links/links.asp?site=NRA&cat=4 http://www.nsra.co.uk/index.php/home/club-finder It might be possible if you mention the area in which you want to shoot as other people may confirm to you specific clubs? Hope that Helps/
  17. I love shooting in all its various forms, but it people want to contemplate the NRA, then they need to understand it and its History, a really good read to get a grasp of this is : The Queen's Prize: The Story of the National Rifle Association. Author: Susie Cornfield Hardcover | Publisher: Pelham Books | Pub. Date:1987-07-06 List Price: £ 14.95 ISBN: 0720717515 | ISBN-13: 9780720717518 The NRA was formed for one purpose to encourage shooting and in particular Marksmanship to prepare for and to provide a deterrent against a French Invasion, The idea of the day was to have a rife in every wardrobe in the Land and for every man to be capable of hitting a dinner plate sized target at 200yds. This pre-dated a regular army and it was of strategic importance to maintain the country's security. This concept was regarded at so important as to be replicated in many countries the USA, Switzerland and Belgium to name a few? Whilst the USA may have expanded the remit and used this as a vehicle and umbrella organisation to champion all shooting sports, that has never been done by the UK NRA, although ostensibly a civilian organisation it is in real terms an instrument of the state used to establish and organise the nations defence many decades before regular forces and the deterrent of an atom bomb? Again there are significant cultural and legislative differences between the UK and USA and if you consider the issues which brought about American Independence, then they were basically fed up of taxes and laws from a ruler so far away and this directly let to the inclusion of the 2nd amendment in the American Constitution so that if everyone was so fed up of the government of the day or the government of the day failed to yield to the democratic process and wishes o the people, then they were capable of banding together as a militia to deal with and remove that government. Whilst the US NRA may provide a great example of what an organisation should be like, it comes from a completely different political point of view and disposition.
  18. Point and Shoot, the T Bolt is a nice rifle but the action can be a bit "sticky" when they are new so slower than a semi, however for me the biggest flaw with them is the trigger whih has little (if any) adjustment. I have CZ, Ruger and Sako, another vote for the Sako from me, but also the CZ if you get the trigger kit!

    Tom hanks.

Not normally the leading actor but I always enjoy films with Robert Duvall. I think another actor who's films I enjoy - Morgan Freeman. I'm not the biggest fan of Kevin Costner but did enjoy "Dances With Wolves" Thinking along similar lines - Brad Pitt in films like Legends of the Fall and Meeting Joe Black deserve a mention and that naturally leads to thinking about Anthony Hopkins Gerard Butler - Law abiding Citizen Jean Reno in films like "Leon"

  21. The two are completely different. I don't have a .270 but it is based upon the long action case for the .30/06 / .270 / .25/06 family. My 25/06 (same case smaller neck) loads with about 54gns of powder. 7mm Rem mag is a much larger belted magnum. it takes about 70gns of powder and although this will load with several weights of bullet I've had the best results with 140gn bullets. 7mm Rem Mag is much more expensive to load and is much more powerful than the .270. If you want to target shoot as well as sporting shooting, the 7mm Rem Mag is a HME Calibre and its ME means you need a HME qualified RO, an additional annotation on your competence card and have to go through a more detailed and formal range zero before being allowed on other ranges. It can be very accurate and its enough for the biggest reds. Its too much (does a lot of meat damage) for smaller deer. Apart from the HME process for target shooting, its hard on the shoulder when shot repetitively the .270 would be much kinder.
  22. From the photo, this land looks very flat and it is bordered on the right by the golf club and above by a road that is nearby? It is not clear what the scale of this land is but I would question what is the backstop to keep any rounds fired within the border for this permission? The photo is limited in letting us see what is to the left or the bottom end? It looks like you would need a high seat to have much chance of staying safe and that there would be very limited opportunities for safe shots? Looking at it on the basis of the photo shown, I would have thought your most successful shooting would probably come along the edge of the field with the tree line along it perhaps with an air-rifle?
