mick miller
It was pretty amazing; I've now started saving for the next one (it took five years of squirreling money away!).

But also just booked for Easter 2011 to Sharmel shake. Both great places for a break, be sure to visit Funchal Market get there earlyish to see the fish Market cracking if your into fish or not the flowers there a amazing too then get up stairs to the locals cafe and enjoy the Poncha (rum & honey) it's essential to have your first before 10am if you can get out on a charter hunting the marlin/tuna take the wife too it's great to be out under the giant cliffs probably see a dolphin/porpoise too! The casinos ok too. Feeling quite jealouse Sharms good too to warm the bones and relax you MUST have a dive or at least snorkel my wife even had a go last time scared witless initially but loved it after a minute for the next 30! Can't wait for my week at Wells Next The Sea (sooo exotic) locations are great but friends & family are unbeatable (keep repeating it, keep repeating it)

Did you plan your own holidays or go on an organised trip? Please pm me any details, my wife likes the sun so wants somewhere else hot, me and the kids want Canada. Could leave the wife at home but who would watch the kids when i am asleep or drunk or both at the same time.

MC
Having just returned from a quick flit to Bali I can confirm that I would not go there for a holiday. The place is full of Australians who constantly whine about everything from there beer being too warm and the ice cream being too cold. How on earth they have the neck to refer to us as "Whinging poms" I really do not know. I also was quite pleased to see that Mungler had not been round and burgled my house while I was away, but I am off to sunny Sussex soon so he can have another chance. Billy, I have just been to Doha Airport in Qatar so I can fully appreciate the smell.
Raja Clavata
Just sat in Delhi airport waiting for a transfer. I can't even begin to describe the smell. However, sweaty curry house might put you on the right lines. Oh and nice friendly guards with Klashnakovs! When I was there in May I found the inbound transfer was OK but the outbound one really got my goat. Told me they'd check the bag through and on the fourth time of asking I was told to collect it, when it didn't show up on the carousel I sent someone back out to airside and they eventually found it. Then you have to go to the transfer desk and get a stamp to get the bus. I had three goes at getting on the bus and came pretty close to spitting my dummy out. Also - make sure you have a "fresh" tag on your hand luggage for the security stamp else you'll get sent packing. Most of my travel this year has been business but I am joining the family for their second week in Lanzarote next month then off to Kenya big game fishing in early December. So that'll be South Africa with an overnight stay in Nairobi in Feb, India in May, Lanzarote and Kenya. I'm trying to get to Vegas for CES in early Jan and there is talk of an smash and grab back to Kenya in Feb / March next. if I can sort out another India business trip in between then I'll have a couple freebie trips to Kenya based on air miles I did consider a lonesome African adventure the first week the family are away in August but it seems like that could be grounds for divorce - women eh!? Gordon R
Went to St Ives a couple of months ago. Off to Wales next month, then either, Devon, Cornwall or Norfolk in September - haven't decided yet. Bit restricted with having two big dogs, who go with us. They have never been in kennels and too late to start now.
AVB
Just got back from Mauritius. First time we've been in July. Normally go April/May. Now the children are at school have to fit in around school holidays. Fortunately the price doesn't go up in July/August as it's their winter. A lot quieter. Slightly cooler but still very pleasant. Got a lot better at water skiing this time! Andrew
scolopax
Don't really do holidays, I get a load of time off with work so never feel the 'need' for one. Going to visit friends in Houston in September though, go every couple of years or so, just generally eat and drink too much and spend whatever cash I have left in Cabelas and Bass Pro. Most months try to get at least one stalking trip in, usually a couple of days in Dumfrieshire for Roe or up in Perthshire for Reds. Every year in November a small group of us head to the north of Scotland for a weeks wildfowling, proper foreshore shooting, always have a great time and sometimes even shoot a goose or two. Oh I used to always book off the last week of January for the beaters days, if that counts as holiday, but with the new job I have to take leave according to my rota, so missed the last two end of seasons.
