Not all bm's are rear wheel drive!!! You can buy pretty much any bm from the factory in 4 wheel drive such as a 325ix (the x gives it away)

And the average bm driver understands what the ultimate driving machine is like to drive ;-)

:good:

We have a 120d. Yes, rear wheel drive is tough in snow and ice. Yes the road tires suck in snow and ice. How many days a year are there snow and ice (not that many)? How many nice days a year are there when you can just let it sing (most of them).

With patient driving and a little skill you can get around on the roads just fine. Hills and ice are about the only big problem.

Thanks

Rick

We've got a 320i M Sport fitted with winter tyres. Went everywhere next doors Freelander 2 did in the recent snow, climbed hills, descended hills all with great control, managed to drive through 8" of snow with no problems.

Come March I'll put the low profile slicks on and I'll enjoy luxurious driving in the ultimate driving machine :P

Why doesn't he buy one then instead of driving that bag of c**p

For the amount if snow days we get here - I'm fine with the 3 series coupe thanks. Miles more fun on country roads than any 4*4 - FACT :-)

If it's that bad that the car does not work then I'm fine walking where I need to go or stay at home. Though what a numpty with the chains. Natures way I suppose

Bm have x drive! It's just not as common! And I have had both and anyone who has driven a few cars will tell you the rear wheel drive bm is a far better drive and usually quicker (if you take th 3 litre A4 vs the 330d td's for example) as the quattro system saps power and fizzles more fuel (about 3-4 mpg less than the bm.

I am well aware they are not the optimum snow car but anyone who has a bit of driving ability cannot deny the majority of bm's are very well balanced and a very good drive with excellent handling.... You always get the jealous brigade of course!

Hahaha! What a plonker! I wonder if he/she wear a Burberry cap when they drive it.

Makes you laugh really, "how many days of snow and ice do we get a year" enough to keep the poxy BMW on the drive for two weeks! you spend all that money on a car and then can't drive it because of the weather.

Alex, I also drive a landy so I can be on both sides of the fence.....;-)

there are **** that can't drive in all types of car, a brand does not make a bad driver and as a general rule you probably see more Burberry in range rovers!

And there are intact the people who seem to be jealous of a car! I picked a bm because they were well designed, rated highly for safety and still had a sporty ability for an estate car you can fit a child isofix seat, buggy, two weeks of shopping (for the time you are stranded in the snow)

As James said, my Audi just seemed a bit boring! Great car but no excitement about it!

That applies to any car with an idiot driver though! How many times have to seen someone stuck in a car with it bouncing of a rev limiter because they have no idea how to drive! I saw someone 2 years ago with an Audi quattro on an extremely steep hill in a foot of snow stuck, when I asked him why he even attempted to pass through this road his answer was "it's 4x4 mate" - yes, but it has 255 section tyres all round!!! And about 5" of ground clearance!!!

dont get me wrong i like BMW's, i like driving them and i like the build quality etc and they do come with a bit of an unfair reputation.

and YES 90% of the problem is the person driving!

and theres nothing wrong with 5" of ground clearance my wifes Cooper S acted as a snow plow recently!

We own a 96 reg 320i-she has never missed a beat-never failed to start and is still running on the original exhaust system-apart from a few rust spots starting to appear over the rear arches the paintwork is immaculate-only service cost is 5 litres of oil and a filter (£25 all in at our local thick fit)-current mileage is 180K-cant fault it.

there is something about a BMW, when you sit in the drivers seat that just feels right. everything is in the right place, there is the right amount of noise and the seats are comfortable no matter where your sat.

The price reflects the above and the saying you get what you pay for applies!
