-kev-
As the title says does any of you do it? I know they are on the general but i dont see a good reason why, theres not many Acorn farmers about are there
Go Go Gadget
Yes, all they are is a fancy looking crow with a lot of nasty crow habits
Cranfield
Since the magpie population explosion they have become very scarce in my area. I saw one in range just before Christmas and let it go.
Pykie
I do shoot them. As said, they are a corvid and do take eggs and chicks. However, I dont shoot more than two or three a year because they rarely present an oppotunity shot to me.
39TDS
Nope, even though there's plenty of them about. Despite enjoying shooting I never shoot anything that isn't bothering me. That means my list is restricted to rabbits and pigeons mostly, although I do admit to magpies and squirrels as well. I have shot them, but not in the last 20 odd years. So what is it they do that makes them pests?
Go Go Gadget
The same that makes magpies and any other corvid a pest. Believe it or not, they dont survive only on acorns 365 days a year
gsm1968
I have seen so few, that I just leave them.
-kev-
Not many near me too pal, if i am honest i like seeing them. I know they will eat other birds eggs and young but so do other birds that aren't on the general. 90% of the times i have seen one its had a acorn in its beak. Bowen20
There's loads around me lately just last week I saw 4 flying from tree to tree making a right racket they were out of range and well aware of me which is probably why they were so noisey. I think in 6 years of shooting with shotgun I've shot maybe 3 if they were in range I would of shot one.
al4x
yep I shoot them as well, look at one close up and you see all the corvid characteristics. They do just as much damage as magpies so we shoot whenever they come in range
humperdingle
Since the magpie population explosion they have become very scarce in my area. I saw one in range just before Christmas and let it go. There are loads of magpies where I live, but I've yet to see ANY on my permission. Have never set eyes on a Jay! TJ91
plenty of them around here, more than magpies i would say i shot 11 in february and have had 6 this month they do exactly what the magpies and carrion do alot of damage we have caught a couple red handed raiding nests
WGD
Plenty here, they get shot along with any other corvids in range.
Catweazle
I don't shoot them on my patch, there are very few of them and I like to watch them when I can. I know I'll probably lose a few songbirds or pheasants to them, but I can put up with that.
paddywack12
yep we always shoot them when we can horrible things as others have said just fancy crows Edited March 31, 2011 by paddywack12
stokie
It's just a magpie with a different coat on There are lots around the woods where I live but can't shoot in there . There is non where we shoot but wouldnt hesitate to shoot one if there were Pest control is pest control no need to be sentimental
Ferret Master
Out of personal choice, I choose not to shoot them. FM
FalconFN
I've sometimes see them if In in a hide but don't shoot them as there are not many around my way. They're very flighty, usually hear them as they fly for cover before I see them.
39TDS
If I get over run with them I might think again, in the meantime I will leave them be. There's not enough here to class them as pests and there is a very healthy songbird population.
shootnfish
i dont shoot them, and dont remember ever seeing one raiding nests for eggs or chicks.

Evil Elvis
Theres tons of them on most of my shoots, they get in range they get popped!!!!!!!!
The Duncan
Very rarely see them in my area so I don't shoot them. Magpies and crows are horribly common here so I have a zero tolerance policy with them. Jays aren't so common around here :yp:
malantone
I have caught them in the larsen trap and the pheasant catcher, we also shoot on sight. nest robbers like magpies, carrion crows and squirrels, they all need to be controlled.
