If im out shooting i take a leather folder type thing with maps for all my perms in it, cert stays in there too and this usually lives in the car :good:

Unless i just go for a walk around where i live then it will stay at home

Alway take mine when out shooting. Got pulled over last night (headlight out) when I pulled over he asked what I had been doing up here, shooting was my reply then straight away he said can I see your license please. When asked what would happen if I didnt have it he explained it would be a ride in the back of the car for me. Good job it was in my pocket

YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO HAVE IT WITH YOU WHEN OUT SHOOTING

The only certificate you're required by law to have on your person is an explosives cert plus the RCA document when using/carrying loose blackpowder-this is fact.

However, like others have mentioned it saves hassle if you have it and get stopped.

I carry a photocopy with me at all times, this is what i did:

Scan and copy your certificate

On the copy, black out house number, street, village and post code

Re-copy the copy (so the writing underneath the blacked ot bits can't be read)

Destroy the first copy and keep the 'blacked out' copy with you

This way it still has all the relevant info for police like name, certificate number, valid from, d.o.b etc.

You can still buy cart's with it

If you lose it and someone finds it they will not know the address at which firearms are kept.

If that is the case then I am wrong in what I thought was a legal requirement (Or otherwise). Whatever the case it makes no difference as I always carry it with me whenever I go out shooting!

You are wrong!

From BASC:

Although it is not a legal requirement to carry your firearm or shotgun certificate

whilst shooting, it is especially advisable to do so (or to carry a copy) when

shooting on ‘open access land’ to avoid your firearms being seized if stopped by

police.

I take a photocopy with me tucked in my BASC wallet, when me and the farmer were stopped I was asked for my license I handed him the copy, he said it wasn't legal I said I know but I'm on the PNC! he was fine with it after all they only want the certificate number to prove it current. unless its a jobs-worth special.

Alan.

Suffolk Police are the tops :good:

I keep mine in the zipped pocket of my gun slip, so it is with me all the time.

A WPC asked to look at my licence the other week, so she followed me to the back of the van and as I reached in and pulled the slip out to get at the pocket she stepped back and went a little pale…..

The only exception is when I park up on our rough shoot and the slip stays in the vehicle so does my licence…..

Shooting time is precious, I have the relevant licence with me so I can deal with any request and move on with my day….or night :D

I don't carry mine when shooting, been stopped by the police twice for routine checks when i had guns in my car, and like has been said before they confirmed my identity from contents of my wallet and who the vehicle was registered to. PNC checked me and shows a valid licence is held.

I had more grief over the number plate on my traders policy being a digit out
