Hide Seats?

Recommended Posts

Looking for some good ideas for a new hide seat. I've been using a plastic waste bin inside one of those large pigeon equipment holdalls but have trouble stopping it crimping and squashing when I sit on it sometimes which is a pain.

Shooting sticks are good but not necessarily comfortable for hours on end and I need a seat that is at least 22" (550mm) tall so I can get up easily to take a shot. Low seats are no use to me.

Any ideas :hmm:

Bakerboy recommended one of these to me. Strange as it may it is quite comfortable sitting on in the hide. I've made one alteration and that is a bit of foam pipe insulation gaffer taped around the back rest. I think I'll weld a cross bar between the back legs to match the one across the front ones to prevent it sinking into the ground too much but now the hot weather is here that shouldn't present too much of a problem as the ground firms up.

If you like the bucket type seats but just have the issue with strength, I may know of 1 or even 2 Cabellas spin top seats which might be for sale. I like these personally, because they are a good height to stand from the seated position, and you can also store bits of kit inside.

Same as this....

PM me if you are interested and I'll ask a friend who has them.

I have used a few seats over the years, some good some ****, i now use a fox warrior carp fishing chair, which

i have adapted for the hide, by removing the backrest, part off the chair, which you do not need, and put the rear

folding legs, further forward to whare the backrest bolted on, you end up with a sort of stool which is very comfortable,

and light to carry, but the best thing about it is that all four legs are adjustable for hight, so you can alter each

leg, to make it level, and stable, in no time, as most hedgerows are seldom flat, and usualy slope towards the field.

at last I sourced a metal 25 litre drum so got round to making a hide seat, I have been using a folding chair which is comfortable but to low for me getting up quickly to shoot, I trimmed the top off the drum with a chisel and hammer, then flattened the edge down and covered this with some tape I had, then painted the bottom along with any bare metal on the outside, then found and cut a scrap bit of ply for the lid, cushion will be anything to hand, folded coat or jumper, the beauty of the drum is that it is a perfect fit in the ex army kit bag I already had to store my net and shell decoys in, I may paint the inside of the drum at sometime, cost just my time,

I have just been given a seat from a drum set the actual seat is height adjustable the three legs fold up and the seat cushion part comes off for easy transport in my kit bag also if you don't screw the seat to the frame it swivels full 360 yet to try it in the field might have to paint the frame as it is chrome but will see how it performs

I use one of those blue ex mango pickle drums with the screw on lids to which I attached the seat pad from a round swivel type bar stool.. I keep some feed sacks in it for putting the shot birds in at the end of the day. At the end of the session I spin the lid off and use it to bung all the rubbish in spent shell, cartridge boxes, sandwich wrappers etc.

I must of had it for 15 years. The wide base stops it from sinking, its got carrying handles and you can wash it out with a hose.

Have used two 10 lt paint tubs (from Wickes or B&Q nothing special) They fit inside each other to carry and you can still get a bit of kit inside. Top them off with some Celotex flexible insulation soft and warm and indestructible. Also can just use one if you are on a bank . All free - and tubs last a few seasons. If you are anything like me you need to use a lot more paint than that to keep her indoors happy.

Good shooting
