bi9johnny
Just got my dream gun(actually it was a mate who owned it) it's a ruger 10/22 with a shortened stainless barrel with a full shroud all the Vasquez titanium trigger bits and its a beautiful looking gun(to me) . I now need a scope for the top, the most shooting I will be doing with it is on my holiday home site taking good bags of rabbits out to max 50 mtrs so what do the Pw boys suggest good from 15 to 50 mtrs
Dekers
Comfy chair, tea and biscuits at the ready...... As a thought, I can do a deal on the Simmons WTC 3.5-10x50 GENUINE, made in Phillipines, BRAND NEW, delivered to your very door for £155. (UK MAINLAND) ONLY problem is I would need you and 9 others to do the deal, anyone else interested? These are Genuine product a classic and much loved scope, nothing comes close to it at this price, these are NOT the cheap Chinese ones, just ask anyone about the Simmons WTC 3.5-10x50!! al4x
made in the Phillipines fills you with confidence Personally I reckon something like a 6x42 would be well placed for shooting a .22 at that sort of range
Bewsher500
for that money you could have a 6x42 S&B one on eBay for £200 brand new in box

Gimlet
I think the best bet for a .22 is a decent fixed power that will transfer to CF should the need arise. 6 X 42 or 7 X 50 or 8 X 56. I've got a Meopta 6 X 42 and its an excellent scope. At the moment its sitting on my .308 and in fact 6 X 42 was the standard issue scope for deer stalking for years. Its fine for rabbit shooting. A bigger lense is helpful for lamping. Look out for S/H S&B or Leupold. Its worth buying modestly priced quality because you've got a keeper. You don't need vari mag or vari focus for daylight shooting on a .22 lr. You won't be shooting past 100 yds ever and anyone can hit a rabbit on 6 power at that range. You might need vari focus if you plan to use a NV add-on, otherwise keep it simple, buy affordable quality and look out for S/H bargains or dealer discounts. You'll always find a use for a good scope, cheap & nasties just end up filling cupboard space.

12borejimbo
Schmidt and Bender 6x42, Swarovski Nova 6x42 or Meopta 7x50. All for £200-£250. Cracking scopes.
Albert 888
Im in the same position,i cant find any s&b 6x42 for £200. Utting have some leupold at reasonable prices.
DaveK
Agree with the Simmons WTC but for a 10/22 I recommend the WTC 2.5-5x20. Don't be put off by the small objective, it's surprisingly wide FOV. Regretted getting rid of mine.

I like leupold scopes. They're very durable and the optics are better than Euro-glass snobs give them credit for. Good value for money. I've got a VXII 3-9 X 40 and its got me out of trouble many times when I've been 'between scopes'.
steve_b_wales
I've got a Hawke Endurance 30 series on my .22LR, which has a 4-12x50 zoom. It's an excellent scope, and comes with a 10 year guarantee. On my .17HMR, I have a MTC Genesis 5-20x50 scope. This is a superb scope. Although you probably won't use the top end of the zoom power with a .22LR, it's good to have it to indentify quarry. The MTC is parallax adjustable, and is used in conjuntion with my NiteSite NV equipment.
Salop Matt
Another vote for a MTC here and you could consider the fixed mag at 10x vertion to !
thepasty
Some people scoff at them but the Hawke is excellent value for money, I've got a few of their scopes and am very happy with them... especially considering the price! I have a close range bunny setup on my cz511 and use a Hawke HD (around £40) that came with the rifle (baught used), I was going to swap it for something later down the line but its served me very well and is defo a keeper... the optics are clear, its accurate and stays accurate... FalconFN
Hawke do seem to have pretty good glass for the money but they are a little hit and miss on quality, especially the HD Sport as I've had 2 that won't hold zero. I have a Simmons WTC 3.5-10 x 40 and I'm very pleased with it, the only reason I'd change it is to get the x 50 version.
telf
+1 for the genesis,i have one on my .22 and its excellent, the AMD ret is in my opinion the best out there

Alycidon
Hate to say it but the Simmons 1.5x 5x24 is a remarkable little scope and excellent value. Most of my scopes are either Ziess/Swaro or Nightforce, I was very surprised by the Simmons and keep one as a spare scope. For some years it sat on one of my 10/22s. coyotemaster
A lot of great scopes mentioned, a thing I learned early on is don't scrimp on price buy once and be done.An AO on a .22 scope is nice as well as most high power scopes are preset for 100 yds. bicykillgaz
This is perfect for your needs, I've owned one had it on my .22lr then stupidly sold it to another member to go on his 308 for stalking and got a simmons white tail classic and regretted it. If your on a budget optimate scopes are far better value or money than anything in that price bracket. http://www.grahamsonline.co.uk/product/6x44-30mm-dual-x-riflescope
stet
I got a mtc viper for my ruger 10/22 good scopes but I could not get away with the target turrets bit in the large side.

I agree, a lot of the better fixed mag scopes are primarily built for deer rifles and have parallax set for 100 y/m, for air rifles and rimfires an adjustable parallax model is preferred as the shooting rangers are much less, sometimes down to a few yards! I am seriously considering a complete scope change on all my rifles since buying a NiteSite NS200 a couple of months ago, I have a lovely Nightforce NSX 5.5-22x50 and a couple of Hawke HD's, none work as I would like with the NS200. Am looking at the MTC Genesis to replace the NSX on my .223, a Viper Connect for my rimfire and maybe a Mamba light for my air rifle, all have side focus down to 10 yards, a must in my opinion for use with the NiteSite, especially for rats! roger3167
Hello You mentioned that you were shooting to a max of 50 yds. i had a Simmons 1.5-5 x 25 on my 10-22 and this was a fantastic scope with enough mag and field of view to suit the ranges you stated. however i have just upgraded to a Falcon 1.5 - 5 x 25 This has a excellent illuminated reticle and the glass is crystal clear, you can find the details on their web site Falcon Optics .com
