Couple of mates had fizzies and I used to swap my 250 wet dream with them when we rode to the pub in the next village. After that came-RD350lc/AJS250csr/RD125lc/Z500/Harris Magnum900/CBR1100rc/GPZ1100 x 3/CBR900/ZZR1100/FZR1000/GSXR1100/R100RS and bike now is GSXR1000-scariest thing so far (i'm getting too old for this 0-60 in under 3 seconds capability)

No mate, I don't think you can ever be too old for the buzz a quick bike gives you.

Am i right in thinking that the later one (DX) had an Autolube added to it (seperate tank to hold the 2 stroke oil)?.

Had the Suzuki AP myself, much faster than the Fizzer !!

yep,, i had an FS1M that had an auto lube system. i had a gt250 in bits but never bothered rebuilding it as it was ****, i had its bigger brothers, the 380 and the 500 which was way more fun. then a 350lc which in my humble opinion was the best 2 stroke road bike ever made.

Can't disagree with that.

I followed 2 bikers on and off (I was in a hire car) from Grenoble to the South of France years ago, one on an RG500 and the other on a RD500(?) either would be a classic bike now.

They way things are going 2 strokes will be like steam engines in few years time..

yep, both v4's afaik, very nice too but a bit too technical for the masses to strip and rebuild in an afternoon, the lc's were the original hooligans bike, tamed a bit later with the ypvs but all good fun

I had the Garelli tiger cross, the one with a yellow tank and black writing. They also did a 50cc model called the record, that had a blue tank and was more of a road version. The tiger cross had nobbly tyres that were what I will call 'fun' in the wet. The bike was good for nearly 70 mph but used to do 3 spark plugs a week. I progress to the Suzuki 250gt just before the 3 cylinder 250 Kawasaki come out which was just a bit faster. I still wish I rode bikes but after a massive smash I stick to four wheels now.

What a great thread for us 50 somethings.

According to your chart, when I got my 250 (1977) it was 78.2p per gallon

didnt think I was paying that much!!!

1973-76 it almost doubled in price, yet we were paying less tax on it in 76 than 73

It was from here mate http://www.theaa.com/public_affairs/reports/Petrol_Prices_1896_todate_gallons.pdf :good:

rg500

That is a beast. I remember that the YammaGamma was a popular hybrid, cant remember if it was RG500 engine in RD500 frame or the other way around.

Here's a noise to make you tingle, the above TZR250 Reverse Cylinder - listen and enjoy

At the same time there was the Honda ss50 never had one but later on had a 250 wet dream

I had the Honda SS50. Did you ever try to pedal these super mopeds? You needed a hip joint that moved from your waist to your earhole! When the pedals were locked forward it was just like a proper motorbike (if you squinted and had a lot of imagination).

I used to get around 150mpg from mine which was handy when the fuel shortage was on and we were issued with petrol coupons. What wasn't so handy was the fixed 30mph top speed especially on the A1 heading north to the Wharfe with rod holdall and fishing basket board. Strangely I could travel the whole 35 mile journey from Barnsley town centre to Collingham in fourth gear. If I tailgated a wagon I could briefly get it up to around 45mph until I lost the vacuum from the backwash of air.

Then went:

BSA C15

Honda C70

Suzuki GT250 twice - first one was nicked

Honda CX500

Honda VF750 - rode that to Sweden and back

Honda Deuville 650 - probably the best all round bike I've had

BMW 1150RT

Me too. Not as pretty as the Fizzy but had the legs and a five speed box that was the right way up.

FISE

Suzuki X1

Suzuki AP 50

Suzuki GP 100

Suzuki GS 125 (X2)

Yam XS 400.........Customised into a single seat flat-tracker with open megaphones. Very silly. Great fun.

Honda CB 750 KZ.....Far quicker than it had any decent right to be.

Yam XJ 750

Ducati 906 Paso
