Big BIG disappointment, didn't bother to pattern them That's a big difference from the quoted speed, a very big difference. I think the mammoths are travelling at 1350ish? B B
I got a box 25 of 1s the 36 gram and a handfull of 3s i chronoed them today five cartridges 1 s and i would say my findings were slightly higher than your 1400 to 1430 my lowest of the 5 being a 1454 fps the highesr 1477fps i checked the chrono with eley tenex amo was ok. Whatever it is not 1600+ fps. And even if you allowed for a less damp cold day i doubt you would ever hit the claimed speed. Shot through an 1187 with indian creek .710 . 50yard 54---53---60---50---44 , in 30 inch that choke and barrel have done better but for 50 yard and 8 quid a box its not all bad imo. markyboy
No def not all bad ! I will prob pattern them and have a few back up boxes in the cupboards if the pattern well of course ! But will continue to load my own 3" for time being
B B
Reloading Its the only way to get truly effective ammunition, but at that price its getting close to being a practical solution, if they were a little faster i could take to them. markyboy
Reloading is best but was hoping to save what's left of my 381 and keep it for the 10 bore! Although steel powder can be good with correct primers
otherwayup
Just wondering if anyone who has some can confirm are they UK of US shot sizes? Pellet size UK US 5 2.8mm 3.1mm 3 3.3mm 3.6mm 1 3.6mm 4.0mm My local shot doesn't stock them. Has anyone else measured them yet? Thanks. Yoggy
Compared to my usual Remington steel loads the Eley lightening kick like a mule. I`ve now tried them on 4 trips with 12 shots dropping 8 duck. Do I prefer them to my normal Remmie loads, and does that extra speed give me an edge......definately not. Dont get me wrong, they are excellent shells, but i wont be changing over to them. My Remington shells are far smoother and suit me much better. Yoggy
how do the prices compare? andrew Andrew, My Remington loads are alot more expensive. The Eleys sell for around 8.25/8.50 a box. Compared to my Remmie loads of 13.00 for the sportsman and 17.90 for the Nitro. But as you know Wildfowling isn`t clay shooting and shots can often be few and far between. [Alot of the time]. So the extra cost doesn`t personally bother me. I`d far sooner use a cartridge I`m happy with. The Eleys in my view and personal experience are nowhere near as smooth as the Remingtons and definately have alot more kick. Obviously this is just my opinion and I`m sure lots of lads on here will love them and find they are excellent and suit their needs.........but they`re not for me. Its still nice to try different cartridges that are new on the market, and its human nature to want to find something that improves your sport and gives you that extra edge. But for me my Remingtons tick all the boxes that I want out of a steel load cartridge, so for now I`ll be sticking with them.

Big Al
Has anyone cut one open? Would be interesting to see what wad etc they are using!! I cant even get any to cut open. My RFD told me that the price quoted for delivery here (NI) means he wont be stocking them.
holloway
pellet size in the 3s is by my measurement 3.6mm ,but probably anyone who was interested has given up on them through poor supply.Very sad as they work very well.Typical Eley. Fal
For anyone is the South Wales area, Sportsmanguncentre in Newport has a shed load in, I bought 250 for £80 which is not cheap but not outrageous, they will last a few seasons. They are the 32g 3" No 3 load. The sales guy said he has a few thousand there.

Guest cookoff013
just got a box from our local shop today, he had plenty in, so whats deal are they any good? i load all my own duck cartridges if these are ok i will not bother loading for duck shells in the future. well at £80 per 250 equates to £320 per 1000, that is quite an expensive shell. you can probbly reload to the same cost. my costing is £150 in powder cost, £60 in wad and primer... and at the silly price of £100 for 32kg of shot. and my estimations are very generous. so the added bonus of reloading is buying different shotsizes. 2s for duck and BBs for anything else, and still have a brilliant cartridge. if you get the steel shot from italy, at £2 a kilo, that shaves off £50 ! i`d not give up your reloading, until you find a comercial cartridge you prefer, or cant be bothered to reload. the added convienience of buying shells is tempting.
