itchy trigger
Wales wasn't in the top 50 . This is because we try and keep as many of the English out as possible, and keep gods country for ourselves the only good thing to come out of wales is the road

unapalomablanca
I reckon Harpenden or Radlett are better than their neighbour St. Albans. I've never seen such brilliant houses.
Vince Green
Its all very much a case of personal choice. I know somebody who would tell you its one of the Scottish Isles. Personally I like it here in London, My wife would probably say Chichester but to me thats God's waiting room.

St Albans has the roman remains of the old town of Verulum but I never understood why they built it right next to such a busy road.
Gordon R
The survey is a bit of harmless fun, but scarcely statistically valid. I do not accept for one minute that every place in the country has been subjected to the same scrutiny. I personally like St Ives Cornwall, but traffic is a bit of a pain. As for Essex having three of the best places - I assume the person who conducted the survey lives in Essex and was trying to rig house prices.
Chris Bb
St Albans has the roman remains of the old town of Verulum but I never understood why they built it right next to such a busy road. Likewise Windsor Castle. Who'd build a royal residence right under the flight path of one of the world's busiest airports?

pimpkiller
I was going to say out of all the areas in england i would rather visit the cornwall area would be at the top but to live there? thats a completely a different thing. After the south west I would choose somewhere in derbyshire, the countryside is beautiful The list seems to be places with riff-raff kept out of mainly middle-class areas Has anyone in their life ever said lets visit Essex? shaun4860
Northumberland or Yorkshire (not in the cities) did they actually leave their office and have a look round? Edited December 22, 2012 by shaun4860
Chris Bb
Has anyone in their life ever said lets visit Essex? You show your ignorance: Essex has some very beautful areas. Forget the Thames estuary, look further north & east.
Muggins.
I`m a little surprised that the south west coastal towns weren`t mentioned. When i was younger most of the city oldies wanted to retire to the Dawlish, Torquay or Brixham areas.
pimpkiller
ive just had a look at these surveys or whatever they are and looking at the criteria they are a load of rubbish. What did catch my eye is the places in the top 50 that are not in the south, they seem quite reasonable.
