The four4islands pump team were down at the National Shooting Centre Bisley yesterday for the NRA PSG National Championships, held on Butt Zero.

It was lovely & sunny but there was a cold north wind which meant cold fingers that slowed down those fast reloads, but it was a brilliant day all the same.

This is my mate Jon shooting stage 3 which was a slug stage with his Supernova.

Looks like an enjoyable day!

In my experience there are no dumb questions my friend, if you need to know anything its always best to ask if you are in any way unsure especially where firearms are concerned.

The guy who shadows the shooter is called the Range Officer, he has several duties, one is to ensure range safety procedures are followed in all respects, he watches the shooter & also the range around him for any potential safety concerns & gives the range commands to the shooter.

He will ensure that the gun is handled in a safe manner while loading unloading & while clearing malfunctions as well as his secondary duty to score the stage properly.

There are many other jobs that fall on the RO but those are the primary functions.

The small yellow box is the shot timer, it gives out a start signal (loud beep) & then records the report (bang) from each shot & displays the elapsed time between shots, your time for the stage will be from the start beep until the last shot fired, this is then recorded along with the points scored & will determine your score for the stage.

The yellow timers can be found here, click the tab on the top left that says "electronics" http://ipsc.org/store/store.htm

There are a few smartphone apps available now that do the same thing if you just want to try the concept, but for serious competition use the dedicated timers are the way to go.

Thank you Neil! That pretty much cleared up all of my questions and potiential future questions :good:

I have just bought my first pumper, a Winchester SXP, again, just for the fun of having something different. I find the comb a bit low so need a comb raiser but apart from that it's great fun.

The SXP is a good gun, i like the inertia-assisted action too, it makes pumping super fast lol

If you're going to stick a comb raiser on the SXP I'd recommend testing the POI before & after. My SXP shoots high, the addition of a comb raiser pushed it even higher, to the point of being unacceptable - so the raiser was quickly removed.

I'm very pleased with the SXP, it's a great rough field gun; and now that it's got a shiny new 3/8 teague choke, It patterns beautifully (standard chokes weren't too bad).

Serious **** more like! What a dogs breakfast...!

I'm afraid I have to agree, most of the stuff hanging off that thing will be useless or worse actually make it slower to use effectively.

A whole lucrative market of tat has sprung up surrounding shotguns, you wont find much of this **** bolted on any serious PSG competition guns because it doesnt help, its the perception that its all ATAS that sells it to the gullible.

Inertia assisted? I know that some pumps have springs that a compressed on the rearward stroke that assist the forward stroke, but how does inertia assistance work? Intrigued..

Talks about it there. Basically i dont know the mechanics of it but when i am shooting the SXP the bolt comes back and ejects the cartridge without having to pump it back. Then all you do is slide it forward again and you are ready to go

Theres a few videos on youtube of people shooting them fast.

Man that looks like fun!!!!!! I bought a Pump to go pigeon shooting with, the bloke who has the permission has just lost his SGC for drink driving (had guns with him). So now I will just have to shoot clays with it and suffer the weird looks and snippy comments from the Over&Under brigade !!

I WILL GET HIGH GUN WITH THE WINGMASTER !! (might take a while, and maybe a back hander for the trapper!)

As your in Bristol you could easily give some PSG a try, we have supporting clubs in Frome & Worcester, your pump gun will be just fine to give it a try & im sure you will have fun, the guys are very welcoming of new comers to the sport.

I would be happy to help you out in any way I can.

Thanks mate, I will look into it into it in the NewYear, I only have a strangled version of the Wingmaster as I dont have FAC, I imagine it would give me plenty of re-loading practice eh ?

It's a fun bit of kit all the same. I wonder how much it would cost to get it un-strangled if I could get FAC for future PSG involvement. Any advice on that score ? Mind you, even then it would need some kind of mag extension cuz it is only 5+1. Interesting to know what the options are though.

Will keep in touch.

Thanks again.
