Grayson
I read with interest today that India have launched a rocket to go to Mars. As you are all aware this is not exactly a cheap thing to do, my question is, do you think a country that receives millions in aid to help its starving/poverty stricken people should be wasting money on this sort of venture? By the way I am totally in favour of countries such as ours helping those less fortunate. But I do think our "leaders" should be saying to them, hang on a mo' how can you afford this? (Bit like our HST project)

goodo123
Just one example of why foregn aid in places like this doesn't work. We should be asking for a refund.

No doubt cammergoon will increase the amount of aid, not ask for a refund.
Tim85
I agree we should not be giving any money to countries that are technically growing faster than ours! It always suprises me that no matter how much debt we are in and borrow each year we still give Millions away each year to countries that do not have the stability or leadership to use it wisely! Most of your tax money goes straight to the leadership to spend and not a penny will hit the people. Thats up to proper charties to do! wymberley
No, Reuters got it all wrong. It was full of Mars BARS, acquired free from various supermarkets being past their sell-by-dates and the rocket was aimed at the NW Frontier to feed the starving masses. Grayson
As I say I am totally in favour of foreign aid, but I feel we should be provided with a breakdown of where and how that aid is spent. How does this rocket help Indias millions who live in abject poverty?
pegasus bridge
Yep, we should turn that foreign aid tap off immediately. If re Indians themselves are happy to have 300 million without electricity and 600 million without toilets - we should respect their judgement. JDog
I suspect that the amount that India spends on space exploration is the exact equivalent of the amount of foreign aid it receives. The aid money seems to be inversely proportional to the increased improvement in living standards for many Indian citizens.
Malik
Foreign aid should really have terms and conditions.

fse10
With all the cuts happening here , job's being lost & more & more peple who we don't want or need coming here seem's very daft to be sending billions of our tax £ over seas to countrys that dont respct us for it," as it's but a small peanut" as one of thier MP'S said about the aid we send.Gov should be sorting the uk out first as we have enougth of our own poor & needy . And off soap box.

Tim85
I saw a report that states we give 1.4Billion..... (yes not a typo) per year just to India, so god knows how much interest we accrue each year borrowing enough money to give it away! It just doesn't make sense at all to me, you would not take out a mortgage for a neighbour when you were in debt yourself would you?? We can give in times of Prosperity but right now, charity starts at home, in our auditable country!

aris
Foreign aid has nothing to do with helping poor people. It is a form of bribery to keep their government 'on-side' with "British interests".

It continues to baffle me how people who otherwise come across as bright and articulate seem to so easily expose their naivety.
